The texas sites have started hinting at character/closet skeleton issues with herman, and that they might not be interested anymore.
To me that can only mean one of three things. They are either resigned to keeping Strong another year, and they are trying to dampen the herman hype from within their fanbase. OR. Herman is likely headed to a team they have a rooting interest in not doing well, and are trying to sew seeds of doubt and undercut the hype/perception. OR. They are using their media to undercut his salary value so they don't have to pay him 8 million per.

I could care less if Chavis stays at this point. Let whoever the HC is decide

That doesn't always translate. A guy who recruits elite at Bama could recruit so so elsewhere.
Given how hard it is for us I think it would take a coach with a national title on his record to out recruit Sumlin.
I would be happy with a coach who is actually a good coach above and beyond the ability of his assistants.

This. Give me Chris Petersen over Les Miles all day, every day.
He's not going to out-recruit many other top coaches but damn can he out-coach them.

the one texas donor i know (hes not a BMD though) said strong is gone. i dont think herman is out of it but them sewing seeds of doubt is typical. its easy to speculate on character issues after that petulant interview he did over the kyle allen situation.

I find this really hard to believe, no way a coach does that with half of the season to go. I would more likely guess at grasping at straws to figure out how they lost a game they shouldn't have.
I think the shine has worn off Herman a little bit but I still think a big enough college is gonna take a chance on him and he likely will be coaching somewhere else than UH.

CP is a stud, but doesn't his son need some kind of treatment up in the Pac NW?

Goddammit.
Chris Perersen is at his dream school. AND he is having success there.
Chris Petersen is not coming to A&M, LSU, or anywhere else.

I've heard that, and CP has spent his entire career in the NW. I wasn't saying anyone should hire CP specifically, merely giving an example of a very successful HC who isn't going to out-recruit most coaches but still wins.

Ok I gotcha, sorry for the overreaction, I'm just tired of people talking about him without doing any research. UW is where he always wanted to be.

To be fair, the Houston boards are full of people who think Houston lost to Southern Miss in the CUSA title game b/c Sumlin was too busy negotiating a contract with A&M to make a proper gameplan. Of course that ignores the multiple dropped TDs by UH WRs, the blocked punt for a TD, the horrid game by Case Keenum, and the fact that USM was actually pretty good that year too. THey also completely ignore that they had very close calls against a bad UTEP, average La Tech, and very mediocre UCLA. Never mind that taking UH undefeated into a BCS game would have given him even more contract leverage. Nah, he just didn't care to win the biggest game of his coaching career.
Basically when they lose their default reasoning tends to be it's b/c the HC is too busy sniffing around for a better job.
That said, I still think Chad Morris is the guy we should go for if/when Sumlin is no long HC.

Chad is my guy, and I honestly get a little pissed when people make little "of course aggy would fire sumlin and settle for morris" comments. He is an absolute stud, and he gets it done, he chose one of the hardest rebuilds in america and hes making it happen. He had a top 5 offense at tulsa, he was the highest paid oc in the nation at clemson and the best recruiter/talent scout there, and he was a rockstar in HS coaching.

Let me know when Herman beats SMU and Navy. He was the only coach out there with a 5-star talent and Ed Oliver made his presence known.

Herman beat SMU+Navy by a combined score of 101-59 last year

To be fair, the Houston boards are full of people who think Houston....
I learned a long time ago that there are two types of Cougar High fans;
The first one is the fair weather fan who will occasionally post a "Go Coogs" post on their Facebook feed and will only go to games if the team is ranked and undefeated. They likely know very little about football and are Texans fans first and foremost.
The second group is hardcore fans who are very delusional. This group of people is very small, but they think UofH is as good of a school as A&M or Texas academically, athletically, and research wise. They hate that A&M and UT fans (or fans in general) won't acknowledge them due to our "arrogance" yet they will throw that pseudo Tier 1 status in your face any chance they get (there is no such standard as tier 1 irl ).
I usually try very hard not to talk sports or school spirit with them for those two reasons. All that time commuting from home has made them very bitter
