Oh I agree with this. I was never sold on Allen, but I do think we are taking a step back with knight or hubenak at the position over a heathy junior Kyle Allen.

As for the "long shot" of a ten win season, if that happens I wouldn't be surprised if sumlin turns that into another job. if I was forced to put money on sumlin being the head coach in 2017 I'd put that cash on him not being here.

It's possible but unknown we may have benched Allen during the bowl and Hubenak may have been the starter vs ucla next year regardless.

It will be interesting to see if he ever gets his mojo back at UH, but to say for certain we would have been better off with Kyle and Kyler vs Trevor and Hubes is pure speculation. Trevor has already demonstrated more competence at the college level than Kyler

And both have more maturity and therefore will handle adversity better

Sarge the idea that we need to pay top dollar even if the coach isn't that great is ludicrous. Mazzone isn't awful but he's not worth a million dollars a year.

If Sumlin doesn't pull through this year, this will be just another weight on the pile making it harder to replace him.

I don't know how much we're paying him, has any real source reported it? And we don't know how much ucla was paying him, but it's bs that they weren't working on extending his contract.

Ok, obviously it isn't the new AD that approved a million + for him. So, is Sharp the one who has been burying A&M with these contracts?

Both he and Jake to an extent if he wins the job will be "new".

Don't know why that matters. ANY QB we had would be learning a (slightly) new system because we have a new OC.

Had we not spent the money and had we gone cheap with an unknown or unproven coach everyone would be screaming "we're rich so why didn't we get out our checkbook!!"

Your logic is so bad.

We didn't need to spend that much to get Mazzone. The guy was going to be out of a job! He would have accepted less.

If you are moving and have a $1,000,000 budget for a new house but find one that fits your list of requirements with an asking price of $500,000 that they have to get out of fast, do you go ahead and offer them $1,000,000 because, hey, that's your budget?

There is ZERO evidence that ucla wasn't trying to extend Mazzones contract

He was an active member of their coaching staff doing all of their offensive recruiting. There were no rumors of any kind suggesting he would not be retained.

And where is there verification of how much we are paying him? Because the only place I've read anything is in a thread started by an Lsu fan on the rant, I'm sure he knows the details of mazzones contract

What about the one in my office?

Okay, okay, his source may be Reddit, too.

Well he wasn't being let go in fact he made 701,000 last year and had negotiated a 330,000 bonus to stay this year. Half he cashed in on for staying through the bowl season and half he is losing because he is resigning prior to June

So IF we gave him 1,000,000 we gave him a WHOPPING 150,000 raise to leave California and relocate to Texas.

quote:

Mazzone's contract at UCLA was set to expire on June 30, and a retention bonus of $330,500 just vested on Dec. 31, 2015. He was set to receive half on the first pay date following Jan. 1, but by leaving now he will forfeit the other half, which was to be paid on the first pay date after June 30. In total, Mazzone made $701,750 in salary and bonuses during his final season with the Bruins.

Also, we've had 3 OC's in less than 4 years, do you think we could have gotten anybody with a pulse without a guaranteed contract?

We wanted a change, we all agree we HAD TO HAVE a change.

I'm not going to complain about what we had to do to bring about that change.

Sumlin better get results now or he's out and he knows it.

Les isn't changing

Les won't be getting fired next year. LSU is going to field a very solid team next year he won't be able to frick it up. He can lose two or even 3(close games) and still get another year with this recruiting class and honestly I only see us losing two.

If Harris plays like he did in the bowl I see y'all winning 10 or more. But tech doesn't exactly defend.....

It's worse than that. Often, it's ridiculously expensive to modify TERRIBLE service because of the way contracts are negotiated.

They are absolutely atrocious but on a different angle Harris made Eastern Michigans defense look really good. Shitty as that defense Tech was, we just wanted to see Harris make the damn throws, which he more often than not, was incapable.
So I am not plugging yalls melt thread:
Is everyone pretty certain that Hubestank is the guy next season? Trevor Knight?
