You know what? Good for him. He deserved better and was scapegoated by by our staff. He has every right to publically defend himself after being publically humiliated by grown arse men who know better.

It's pathetic watching Texags drag this kids name through the mud just to protect a POS like Sumlin. It really shows how fricked up the priorities of the average sports fan are.

Lost respect for Allen.

He didn't get the fullest of fair shakes while he was here, but to act like he didn't have a hand in the culture and not enough of a hand in being a positive force is pretty divisive.

Should have just left it that there was blame on both sides, and left it at that.

I would agree with you if Sumlin hadn't publically humiliated him just so he wouldn't have to explain why he started an injured Allen over a secretly suspended Murray.

He told the entire country his starting QB was shitty just so he didn't have to answer a couple awkward questions. He has every right to defend himself at our expense now. We started this, and now he's fighting back.

I say good for him

I agree. Sumlin hung him out to dry. I'd go scorched earth on him too. This is on Sumlin.

I still place way more blame on Sumlin than on Allen when it comes to that relationship. Murray was one thing, Allen was another.

Nah, IMO, he lost an opportunity to handle himself with some class and take the high road. Do I blame him? Not necessarily. Could he have handled queries better? Absolutely.

Sumlin still set this whole thing in motion by hanging him out to dry, though. That part does irk me way more than any of this "culture" talk.

Better? From whose perspective? You are looking at it as an Aggie. From Allen's perspective, he had a coach who shot him up with painkillers and sent him out to play when he was hurt and then allowed the media and fans around the nation to laugh at him when he couldn't perform instead of shielding him by admitting he was hurt. Sumlin deserves this.

Maturity.

Nah, I've said before I don't blame Allen one bit for transferring. I'd probably have done the same thing. I'll stick up for the kid in that regard.

Purely talking about queries after the fact. He handled them well while here. Sometimes better to take the high road even after the fact.

Notice that he doesn't talk about Spavital, who didn't exactly speak out against the "culture"...

Even though he appeared to get the short end of the stick here, this doesn't reflect well on him. It's one thing to say he feels that Houston is a better environment for his development or something similar that could be seen is a slight to A&M but isn't really and another to say this. There's a reason it's suggested you don't talk shite about your current/former employer in a job interview, it makes you look petty and argumentative.

You know, I'm a little tired of y'all saying Allen was hung out to dry.

Sumlin pretty much never comments on injuries when they aren't season ending. Never has and he ain't gonna start for some kid who was obviously telling the team he felt good enough to play.

Was Johnny thrown under the bus when Sumlin didn't say his play against Mizzou and LSU in 2013 was likely due to the severely fricked up thumb he was playing with?

I'm sorry but if Allen was hurt so bad he couldn't play HE NEEDED TO SIT HIMSELF. It was his choice to go back out there and a coach can only go by what a player tells him. The debacle at Ole Miss was just as much on Allen as it was on Sumlin.

The hell we can't? Seems to work for plenty of other teams in the SEC.

Anyone else remember Allen being interviewed in 2013 and saying that (paraphrased) "Whether Johnny leaves for the NFL or not, I'm going to A&M. I'm not afraid of competition"?

This is where I come down on it. I don't blame Allen for having raw feelings. He was never given the benefit of the doubt as true QB1 either season here, for a variety of reasons, most of which he had no control over. He was absolutely justified in leaving the program.

However, it'd reflect better on him to take the high road after the fact. Trashing A&M doesn't really get him anywhere and makes him look like he can't move on.

Not really a good idea for any transfer to do that, honestly (except for maybe Penn State athletes after Sandusky). Sometimes it's better to give the bland "i'm just focusing on helping my new team win," coachspeak answer.

Allen is showing his true colors. I thought it was strange when he was hanging out by himself in the hotel before the South Carolina game. Later we find out that he had tossed a fit when he lost the job to Hill.

This furthers my suspension that the players didn't want him as their QB. Maybe the locker room environment is bad, but you don't leave your teammates before the bowl game unless you are convinced they don't want you to be there QB.

The difference between Kyle Allen (#10) and Mark Farris (#10) is now mind-blowing at this point.

So is Manziel taboo on this board? Just noticed my thread was deleted.
