Well after spending the holidays with friends and family I can confirm what tmc has been saying (not that you need confirmation tmc just adding to discussion), that this process is locked down. I have info from a booster VERY close to Sumlin, like has social dinners close, that Sumdog has been upfront that he will NOT talk about the coaching hires to anyone. Like not a hint after a strong plea to share. Also I learned despite the drop in oil price we can afford the country's first $2 million coordinator if that is what it takes to get a Chavis.

And with that said, I hope to God he has a $2 million offer right now, and now $1.7 or $1.8 or something like that.

Just the symbolism of us taking lsu's DC is worth $2,000,000.

If he ended up getting pushed out of Utah like some reports are saying, I'm sure he would find another HC job somewhere

Sumlin just said all 3 hires will likely be announced this week but that he wasn't at liberty to discuss further right now. I've been fairly certain we've had our DC for about a week but that pretty much seals it.

Getting Chavis might single handily end the LSU fan base

to elaborate a bit further....

When Beaty left, we pushed Richard Moore hard to come back into the fold. He changed his tune and suddenly was ready to re-commit. Our current staff likes him a lot and has been working him for quite some time. And after losing Malik you would think he is a huge priority.

Then suddenly we backed off and didn't let him commit. He's an early enrollee and really doesn't have time at this point to jack around. Putting him off makes zero sense and you only do so if you are okay losing him. I believe we did this was because the new hire doesn't have a place for him.

There are a few other clues but that one really stuck out to me.

he might be willing to go to BYU if they let go of Bronco just to screw over Utah's AD.

That dude would have to make a slam dunk hire or else he'd be a dead man walking.

New hire runs 4-2-5 and need more players in the secondary? (ie maybe the reason why we pushed for Boyd to get back into the fold and why Boyd pushed back his date)

I DONT GET IT!!!!

I actually don't think this is why. I think he's maybe turned off by Moore's size and where to play him. There have been internal disagreements on a few recruits (Moore being one) and we did 180s on 2 of them this week (the other, Boyd, probably is obvious).

Anyway, as of last weekend, we changed course on quite a few defensive recruits. That's a weird thing to do without a DC in place. It could just be an attempt to keep options open for when we do hire someone, but you would have thought we'd have done that a month ago when he fired Snyder

I think it's probably more likely to be someone not oft-mentioned but from a percentage standpoint, I'd go Chavis (but I'd only put it at about 20%)
