My money is on Muschamp. Way too much smoke for there not to be fire.

I would be shocked, but then again if anyone can spin this for Boom it would be Sumlin.

What is everyone's thoughts on Chizik? I hated him as a HC at ISU & Auburn. But as a DC... IDK. He hasn't been a DC in like 8 years.

My thought I that Chizik would be slow to react to the evolving game

If we can't get Venables or Muschamp how about going after Bo Pelini? He's been the DC for Oklahoma and LSU so he knows the area and his defenses are usually really good.

Bo has too much baggage after how he conducted himself as HC in Nebraska. We have enough problems with other schools using our lack of defense as a negative recruiting tactic, why give them more ammo with an out-of-control coach?

Some people would call that being fiery and we definitely need a guy who can light a fire under our defenses arse.

Have you seen our D? Bo knows D. He'll be a huge upgrade.

Would Bo bring Carl? Would they get along with the local media?

I think I would prefer Bo over Venables honestly. Nebraska's defenses in the latter big 12 years were salty as frick

Two questions with Bo. Does he recruit and does he coach a specific position?

Bo is going to get another HC job at a P5 school.
He's a proven, successful HC and Nebraska were idiots for firing him.
He has no baggage. The guy is free of major scandals. He's an a-hole. So what? PLENTY of schools would be thrilled to have that a-hole make them a 9/10 win team every year.
Watch.

What? Can someone post Nebraska d stats, pretty sure they were mediocre but I could be wrong
Posted on 12/1/14 at 3:54 pm to leoj
Yeah they have been mediocre in the Big Ten looking at it. I dunno, maybe not over Venables but he would still be a good option if he doesn't take a HC job elsewhere.

Last 5 years
Total D / Scoring D
42nd / 44th
26th / 43rd
39th / 63rd
39th / 46th
11th / 10th
I was expecting a little better. I'm curious what it was at LSU when he was DC.

His defense was 3rd nationally all 3 years at LSU. The year before that at OU his D was 6th in rushing and 11th in scoring. The year before that he took the Nebraska D from 55th to 11th.
He's real good.
He's real good.

IMO most of the Nebraska drop-off is due to their national pipelines drying out after the B1G move.
Ding ding ding.
I hadn't really even considered him, but the more I think about it the more I like it. Voldemort getting all up in our players faces sounds like a nice change.

Three things happened in succession
1) The Big Twelve formed, merging their own Big 8 with SWC schools that voted to outlaw Nebraska's skeezy recruting practices like enrolling multiple partial and non-qualifieres, greyshirting out the wazoo, the County Scholarship Program for "Deserving Nebraskans", etc. This is the real reason they were good. Before the Big XII, they could take in the non-qualifying dumbfricks from all over the country that couldn't play for own their state schools for academic reasons, over sign, and didn't need to use up football scholarships for native Nebraskan corn-feds because they'd all get a County Scholarship.
2) They then joined the Big 10. The recruiting rules didn't get easier and this cut them off from a more natural path to recruiting Texas.
3) It's now been too long since they were successful and they've lost their allure. Nebraska is no big deal to current 18 year olds like it once was.
