Oregon article about kid in 2014. He was a 3-star, but probably would have been rated higher if he would have been academically eligible.

This class could be considered a little reach-y without the highly rated recruits we saw in 14/15... but it's heavy on OL and DBs, which should be our sweet spot with Chavis + Turner.
Hopefully we continue to build momentum, to the point that the truly prized recruits come back around.

Meh, other than Tucker and Reed most of this class so far are projects, potential late risers and dare I say "reaches". Take Blumrick, he's basically a kid offered on size and arm strength with the hope those tools can be molded.
Momentum is largely perception and while commits in succession help, we're not landing great players. We're landing Sherman 2009 type recruits.

Connor Green is the only commit we have that I consider a reach. Blumrick and Green are the 2 projects. All of our other commits are guys we usually take. We arent going to have a whole class of 4-5 stars. We need to take a full 30 so I'd expect atleast 11-15 3* which is in line with the past couple of years.

It's too early to call this class "reach-y". These coaches are watching tape and judging how these players would fit their system. Look at last year and the rise of Kellen Diesch.
Recruiting sites also only tell part of the picture. Last year's ranking doesn't include Keith Ford, Priest Willis, Trevor Knight, Kalvin Cline, Ratu Mafileo, and possibly TD Moton. Most of these guys are grown young men from great programs (OU, UCLA, and VT) who are ready to play right way.

It's not that early. We've already sent out 153 offers, and it's indisputable that the earlier offers to higher ranked recruits aren't working out at the moment.
6 of the top 10 in Texas have already committed. We have zero and are not projected to land any of the remaining 4 at the moment.
10 of the top 20 in Texas have already committed. We have zero and are not projected to land any of the remaining 4 at the moment.
28 of the top 50 in Texas have committed. We have 3. Colorado, one of the worst BCS programs in the nation, has 2.
Like I said, I'll roll with whoever Turner and Chavis want, and it's not too late to turn it around across the rest of the class, but there is little-to-no margin for error.

And our class isn't bad in isolation. But our main competition (on and off the field) in the form of Alabama, LSU, tOSU, OU, UT, and Baylor, collectively, are kicking Sumlin's arse.

Sherman was a horrible recruiter. There is a bunch of whining and revisionist history on this board.
We missed out on almost all the "National" guys. We got Luke Joeckel and Jake Matthews (#6 and #7), because their brothers were playing at A&M.

Yeah totally man. SEC rules and B12 drools.
But 17 guys we've offered have committed to the TX/OK schools, almost all more highly rated than our current commits.

I'll take our 2009, 25th overall rated class over our 2013, 9th overall rated class 
We're going to have to at least win an SEC title to get over the big recruiting hump. In the meantime, I'm fine with taking players the coaches see potential in instead of trusting the national recruiting rankings. Even if you do, isn't this the most "talented" by rankings team we've had in how long?

You can take them in hindsight. You won't stay a $5 million coach very long scoring 25th recruiting classes.
Sumlin is damaged goods. He needs a damn solid year to pull the nose of the plane up.

This is a down year for Texas recruits, especially on defense. Of the 45 composite 4 and 5 stars, only 17 are defensive commits. I don't want to give staff too many excuses but the lack of defensive talent in TX this year is definitely hurting us, which makes whiffing in 2016 even worse.
