Love to get Boyd but he has all but said he loves to troll. I don't ever know what he says is truthful or just to mess with people.
I don't think it is a secret that our O is stronger than our D or that with the type of O we run it is designed in part to keep defenses from getting comfortable because of the pace.
As long as we get 2 of Boyd/Hill/Sheffield/Elam I'm thrilled. We get one and it's a letdown. We get 3 and it's time to start printing Return of the Wrecking Crew shirts.

Ever since Boyd seemed kind of pissed about us not offering him (last fall I think?) I haven't had a good feeling. Sheffield is a must get IMO. Losing out on him would be crushing. He's a tick above the others I think as far as a prospect. If we can get two of Elam Hill and Boyd I would be ecstatic. One would still be a good DB haul. I think we get Elam personally but it's hard to tell with him. Don't feel great on Boyd or Hill.
The intensity being questioned by Boyd is a bit concerning though just because he's close to some of our other big D recruits. Snyder needs to get it done this year

I don't envision Terry Joseph being a laid back coach. I don't know how he was at Nebraska but all I've heard (and seen a little through video clips) is that he is about intensity and a very hands on, get in your face if you frick up kind of guy. Maybe Kris isn't sold on the defense, maybe he is just trolling, but as many times he's been at A&M and left with no commitment, you have to wonder when the staff is planning on moving on to the next group of guys (Josh butler, Henry black maybe?)
Elam is announcing soon and that decision is going to be huge concerning us and the remaining db's on their choices coming up.

I think like malik, our results this year depend on whether or not we get Kris

So what the frick is inside Texas? And if its some legit recruiting service, why is this like the first story theyve broken

This is like only the second time I've seen it mentioned

Malik is deciding December 19th

It's kind of scary knowing Malik, Boyd and Sheffield are waiting to see each team's performance this year. Not going to lie, I don't have much faith in our D at this point.
Do you think they are simply looking for improvement from our D, or want to see a massive step that is probably unrealistic?

It's always a good prognosis of a program's state when someone says "Trust in __", and it actually carries some weight. On the recruiting trail, KDS is yet to give us any reason to doubt.

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed.

Do you seriously see the teasips having a better year than us? I think they're in for a BAD year
Posted on 8/11/14 at 10:13 pm to Gradual_Stroke
I think we'd murder them if we played, but I'm not nearly as confident that we'll have a better season.
Posted on 8/11/14 at 10:14 pm to Gradual_Stroke
No, and that's what I need to keep in mind. I get lost in comparing ourselves to LSU and Alabama, when in reality, while we don't play them, we still compete against Texas everyday on the recruiting trail. A bad season by them would be extremely helpful

Anything can happen with the sips but being forced to listen to Austin radio over the years it amazes me how much they are ignoring the huge warning signs. They are a paper thin team that has a lot of issues they are glossing over that will likely be exposed in an obscene way.
It starts with Ash of course as he is their only competent QB. Swoopes and Heard essentially can't throw the ball. Heard will likely get better over time but he honestly needs a RS that he won't get. Ash is also hardly a savior. At his best he is an average QB that hasn't played or even been hit in a year. At the smallest sign of a concussion he is done for good. Realize we are talking about a guy that Matt Joekel could likely run circles around and he is easily their best QB that will likely not make it more than a couple of games if that.
Their OL is a piecework of guys, many of which wouldn't crack our 3 deep. This is critical because they have a run based system and a QB made of glass. Gray and Brown are good RB's but no RB can do anything if he is hit by 2 guys in the backfield. We already discussed that if Ash goes down you might as well mail in whatever hope there was of a season as well.
Strong's "cleansing" program or whatever you want to call it has devastated their team. Sure you have some guys that were kicked off but Strong is going with the route of playing the guys that "buy in". Guess who that means? A ton of walk ons. Their scrimmage Saturday was littered with walk ons getting a ton of reps. Remember what it was like in the Fran era when we ran out a ton of walk ons expecting them to contribute? Mind you we aren't talking about Travis Labhart type guys that had worked their way up either.
They are very reliant on a lot of guys that are either true fish or haven't played to come in and not only contribute but be significant pieces. These aren't Speedy Noil/Myles Garrett 5 Stars either. When you are praying that Jaxson Shipley can heal up his Hammy (something that is unlikely to ever be right once injured) you are in big trouble. This isn't Jordan, this is Jaxson. A guy that at best is an average WR. That's a huge red flag. This team simply doesn't have many standouts and has some gaping holes.
Everyone in Austin has gone all in on the "let's bash Mack" wagon but Mack honestly did a pretty great job last year. Texas won a few games they had no business winning (esp WVU and Iowa State) and really didn't have a terrible loss (sorry but BYU and Ole Miss were more talented teams than Texas was). Strong is the only rookie coach in the BDF and the hill to climb is a big one. I could see UCLA absolutely destroying Texas early and putting them in a spiral. This is a very fragile team that is relying on the "magic sauce" of Strong being able to somehow get them to be better than they really are and if cracks form in that belief then it could get ugly, really ugly.
Of course I could be wrong. Maybe Strong can get all of these guys to come together and play above their talent level. Maybe they get insanely lucky on injuries. I'm just saying that the alternate is far more likely. Simply by putting a uterus on your helmet does not make players more talented and if you look at this team objectively as though they were anyone else I don't see how you expect them to be above 7-5 with a real possibility of being a lot worse.

Good points.
It doesn't help that they are in a league that has no problems running the score up on you and can be quite unmerciful. I think all of those teams would love to take it out on the sips.
Not to mention they are in a dire QB situation in a QB league.
Just get ready for all of the "Mack left the cupboard bare" talk midway through the season.
