Voted and thanks for sharing. I rode brevards trails last weekend and they don't need any. They have some killer trails.
Urban Wilderness has done an awesome job with the dirty south trails, this would be a nice addition.

New apartments over off Hill Ave by the James White Parkway exit are nearly complete. I think 2-3 of the buildings and the club house up front are done and they're finishing up the last 2-3 buildings currently. Beautiful view of downtown from the complex. I like that the developers and city are pushing modern living and amenities into some of what's been considered the rougher parts of downtown in south and north Knoxville.
It looks a lot better in person, but here's a computer generated illustration

-There will be a new wine bar coming to the old city -- The old city wine bar next to Jig and Reel on Jackson ave. -- More info below
-Babulu Tapas and Tacos has announced they will be coming downtown to Gay St. in the JC Penny building sometime in mid to late fall. Knoxville makes the 4th city to launch the restaurant following Memphis, Birmingham, and Jackson.
quote:
The Old City Wine Bar will feature a rustic/industrial aesthetic reflective of the industrial building in which it will be housed. Reclaimed metal from throughout the building will be utilized as will re-claimed wood from there and elsewhere in the Old City. The old tables from Patrick Sullivan’s (sans booths) will make an appearance in the new business. In a departure from most dining and drinking establishments in Knoxville, he has no plans to include televisions on the wall.
Over fifty wine choices will be offered by the glass and one-hundred-fifty will be available by the bottle. Food offered will focus on small plates and items such as charcuterie plates. He’s open to coordinating with the kitchen in Boyd’s to bring a wider variety of food to customers if they like. He’s also considering providing small bites with each drink simply to complement the beverages.
The street-level space will have room for about forty-five seats, but tall, standing tables and drink rails along the walls will add to the capacity. Interestingly, the space below the street will also be utilized. In addition to serving as a wine cellar, it will double as a small event space for twenty to thirty people. He is formalizing plans for wine classes in the space and already has sommeliers lined up.

More growth downtown:
-Wild wings Cafe is opening up its second location in Knoxville inside the Kress building on Gay St. It sounds like they hope to be open by the end of this year.
-I spoke with somebody from Balter brewing Co. last week and they start getting the building converted and ready for move in the next several weeks. They should open some time during the season but I don't have a hard date. They seem to have the most work ahead of them out of the beer and whiskey spots mentioned.
-Alliance brewing Co. has made some big progress at their spot off of Sevier Ave. over in the Island home area and it looks really solid so far. Not sure when they hope to open. I would think this fall maybe?
-Shultz brau brewery over off Central and Bernard has been underway for a while now as they continue to transform their spot and get their equipment in. It looks pretty dope from the pictures so far and they will have the biggest space by a significant margin of the three breweries mentioned.
-Knox Whiskey Works has made a lot of progress and should probably be open some time late summer/fall. It's going in over off Jackson Ave. next to Sweet Peas BBQ and maybe something like 150-200 yards down from where Balter brewing is going in on the corner of Jackson and Broadway.
Also, it seems like the guy who is running KnoxBeerTours is off to a really solid start. I see him and the party busdowntown pretty often and it's usually full. I like the concept and think it's going to be even better once the new breweries take off.

Crafty Bastard has their sign up as of last week. I was running by there today and the inside looks far from finished, but they're working on it.

I actually made it out to the unofficial opening last weekend at Crafty Bastard. We had a great time and really enjoyed drinking there with some friends. Pretty bear bones but it had a cool vibe. That being said, they aren't pouring any of their own yet, so it was acting more as a pure bar than a brewery. But, it's coming fairly soon. The inside and outside were was packed and stayed crowded from late morning into the night when we left. Pretty chill little spot

If you guys are in Knoxville and haven't already, try and check out Balter Beer Works, Crafty Bastard, Last days of Autumn, and Alliance breweries.
All have opened up in the last 2-6 months and are good to really good.
Shulz Brau will be opening up before long as well over off of Central and Bernard not to far from Hops and Hollers and Central Flats and Taps

How's Cumberland Ave coming along? Haven't been in Knox since I graduated in December. Still a shite show of a mess?

Still a shite show, but you can see definite improvements. Still a lot more work to be done to meet the scheduled finish next year.
