They only get 2-3 players worth keeping in state a year don't they? And they usually leave out of state. Maybe it doesn't matter who he pisses off...
eta: My point is there overall success will be out of state recruiting. Yes, it will be important to shut down the borders, but you kind of need to have a badass program to help with that. He should have waited a couple of years before saying something like this.

I feel like the majority of LSU fans on here take the same approach to an in-state recruit leaving, which is sad.
That's kid of what I'm getting at. Fans will tend to do it, more so within certain fanbases. But I don't recall a head coach every openly saying it.

This is really going to make all our in state guys leave. We are fricked

More deflecting and over-reaction from Hog fans. Not one actual discussion from y'all about openly saying this.

An interesting view, considering he's a guy that grew up in Illinois, played at Iowa, and rose through the coaching ranks at Kansas State and Wisconsin. Should he not be welcomed back to those states? What about kids he recruits from Texas, Florida, etc.?
I usually like your take on things...but this is just dumb.
Edit: The HS coaches in the state love this guy. His quote about kids leaving the state is nothing new...Its no different than "we only want kids that love the helmet" that was heard for 10+ years.

I found it odd that a guy that's made a lot of moves through his career as a player and coach came in guns a-blazing in a state he's never played, coached, or recruited in consistently.

Kind of a hypocrite if he recruits out of state then...i guess he is cool with the unwashed from Texas and Oklahoma who betray thier home state.

That's the life of a player/coach...He's just putting out there what has always been there.
What do you expect him to say? Hey...The grass may be greener...Go take a look and if things don't work out we'll fit you in son.

Maybe not a word. Nick Saban has said that in-state kids are a priority and will always make up at least half our roster, but they're going to get the best regardless of where they come from.

Stop making a mountain out of a mole hill. He is playing it up to the fanbase. He isn't saying this on ESPN or to USA Today. No one cares that he said this inside of the state and I know plenty of HS coaches that love the new staff. His blitz the state campaign the first day of recruiting seasons in the spring made him a ton of bonus points with the HS ranks.

The only person in this thread over-reacting is you. I don't see anyone deflecting, just stating that this has actually helped our in-state recruiting.
You, simply put, aren't getting the reaction you would like.

Level headed deflection. Head in the sand....

That's not deflecting. Everyone in this thread is saying that he is burning bridges with the instate coaches and that is about the furthest thing from the truth.
Sorry that it doesn't fit the agenda of this thread.

Settle the frick down. I guess you went right over the level headed part that would suggest the rest behind it was strictly sarcasm...

My bad, I did completely miss that part. I apologize.

Hes already burned his bridges in the Baton Rouge area ....
Bert said on Day 1 that he's going to recruit uncommon men. He doesn't want people that want to be common street thugs that the Baton Rouge area produces. tBeacon is looked upon to set high standards and be a rock of integrity.
Dee Skinner obviously didn't meet the high standard of Razorback athletics as he'll be spending his young adult life in prison for statutory rape. It's telling that Baton Rouge coaches would defend a rapist thug and let an obvious no-brainer call to pull an offer a shitshow staff threw out to a marginally athletic non SEC level athlete burn a bridge with a very well respected coach whose assistants have been getting HC jobs at a higher rate than his peers.
When Louisiana parents can start raising their children to be respectable functioning young adults with athletic ability, discipline in the classroom as well as on the field and in the community we'll start signing them, but the future does not look bright for us to wasting too much time in bayou country.
So Louisiana people go raise us some UnCommon young men and we'll make their dreams come true.
