I'd say defense and Sims' 3 INTs were the reasons we lost to Ohio State.

Play calling can be questioned in just about every loss ever by any team. It wasn't Lane tossing three ints out there. Like I said, partly but not the sole reason we lost.

Lane Kiffin has ZERO integrity or loyalty.

Lane Kiffin has one worry...Lane Kiffin.

He will screw Saban or Alabama in a heartbeat if it somehow benefits him.

Well to be fair, Lane called a good play to win that OM game

Only 10 points that game.

Yes only 10 points, but still had a good play called to win the game. I'm not sure I can ask much more out of him in that situation.

I don't think he's that good tbh. Blake Sims bailed him out at least three times with his legs when Alabama was in serious serious trouble. Cooper was insane. Yeldon was phenomenal.

Alabama had too much talent on offense to be as sporadic as they were last season.

Top notch OC. Good play caller, seems to know how to use his talent well. Seems to have mellowed out and humbled a bit.
Still wouldn't want him as a HC. I would also still be worried how he would handle himself if things went bad. Throughout his career when things don't go well he's had the tendency to turn sour and make the siutation worse.

You wanted to know so I told you.

I would have asked him to stop subbing Henry in about midway through the 3rd.

He is a shitfest. Alabama is great. Awesome program and winning culture. Kiffen benefitted from that Way more than he contributed to it. He may be decent at his profession.... but decent is all.

He has a high ceiling tho...

I am curious to see how he does this year.

Last year, I thought he performed much better than I expected. He helped Alabama navigate through a pretty rough schedule to get to the first playoffs. That being said, I think his play calling might have cost them that game.

Overall though, I would say he was successful last year, but I think this year we will see if he was a great hire.

Don't believe she lives in Tuscaloosa, though. They don't own property here.

I find it difficult to lay the blame for the OSU loss at the feet Kiffin and his play calling. Could we have run the ball more? Sure.

But it wasn't Lanes fault we let a guy go for 200 on the ground. It wasn't Lane who couldn't stop the Buckeyes on 3rd down all night. It wasn't Lane forcing throws into coverage for Ints.

bullshite. Bama scored 35 points that night. That is more than enough points if matched with the typical Bama defense. They were gashed against AU and gashed again vs OSU. Our defense was soft last year. The offense set records.

Lane's hire was roasted all over this website. For good reason.
True.

He had been an abject failure at his most recent stops, along with a so-so year at UT.
True.

Lane's hire marked the downfall of not only Nick Saban, but the Alabama football program as a whole. The cancer that was Kiffin would undoubtedly eat away and kill what Nick he built. Sooner rather than later.
I continue to be amazed at how many people here don't understand how message boards like this one operate.

One year later, Alabama won the conference, put up superb passing numbers, and found itself in postion to win another title. Unfortunately, Alabama failed and the title was brought to Columbus.

I know a few Bama fans that really do think he was responsible for the OM loss by not making them quit like LSU did. They also feel he is the main reason Bama is getting soft and that's what led to shootouts with Auburn and Ohio St. This is what happens to teams when they don't commit to being a smash-mouth offensive team. The defense starts to get soft too.

quote:

Widely regarded as laughably stupid when it happened, how has your opinion on the Lane hire changed since then, if at all. How do you see him going forward? Has your perception of him changed at all in your mind after one year at the Capstone?

The laughably stupid part is where you really need a reality check about the way it was viewed here. I still think he is an entitled brat who happens to be a decent OC. No more. No less. How smart do you have to be to tell Blake Sims to drop back three steps and chunk it to #9?

Would you now feel comfortable having Lane on your teams coaching staff?

Heaiiiill no!

Like him as an OC a good bit. Felt like he got away from Bamas identity at times last year though.
