The Miami offense was the weak point. Dorsey would've been shat on by both defenses.

Plus....Larry Coker.

Ohio State didn't have a problem beating virtually the same fricking team in 2002 with meh talent.

One of the enduring scenes for me was when Les Miles was interviewed after the game in Tuscaloosa and he said "I would be HONORED to play that team again."

A man who can give that kind of respect in victory deserves immense respect in defeat.

It was classy of him to say that but that combined with Saban's campaigning and Gundy's absence of campaigning all helped Alabama get a rematch. I dunno if Pickens should have been angrier with Miles or Gundy.

I agree. That 2001 Miami team was easily the MOST TALENTED of the bunch, but it was not even close to being the "BEST TEAM".

That's such a load of shite. It was the freakin' NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! If you can't get "up" for that then GTFO. It's called coaching and preparation. Clearly, there was an advantage in Alabama's favor.

Meh, what the frick do yall know? You ever been in a national championship game? Go ask Clemson...some of them may remember what it's like.

In a rematch, the winner always has a bigger fear of losing because they have more to lose than the loser. I'm not saying that's why LSU lost (Les' infatuation with Jefferswag is the reason we got embarrassed), but I'm saying it's a huge element to the game.

Lost in all the "mulligan" and "21-0" bickering is the fact that we were able to witness the greatest clash of defenses in this generation - TWICE.

Anybody who truly appreciates the game should respect that. We can talk about missed field goals in game 1 or JJ in game 2, but we may never again see a game where BOTH defenses were at such a level.

I'm sure it's easier for me to see it this way because the end result favored my team...but that 2011 LSU defense deserves better than mockery and constant talk of mulligans. When your team can't cross the 50 and you STILL haven't let the team in your end zone until the game was almost over, your defensive accomplishment is overshadowed. It shouldn't be. It was an honor to see defense played like that - so incredible that today the SEC is still known for our defense in a year that none of us could stop anyone.

This is how football should be!
I hate how it's become a game where the team with the ball last wins, and the final score is something like 49-56..

I was. My opinion is the 2011 LSU and Alabama teams were both better teams.

Yes, I'm biased.

I would take 1995 Nebraska over 2001 Miami any day of the week. If you want the most future NFL players, go with 01 Miami, but if you want the best team in our generation, it's the 95 Huskers.

Exactly. I like offense, but damn it's gotten out of hands with the rules.

they were amazing. and it is sometimes forgotten they played a very strong schedule (it wasn't just that they blew out bad teams)

I'm admittedly old fashioned and biased, but I'm much more impressed with an offense that lines up and dominates you even when you know what's coming, over an offense that relies on catching you with the wrong personnel on the field because you can't substitute.

Everyone in the stadium knew what 95 Nebraska was going to do when the ball was snapped...and nobody could do a damn thing about it.

I would too, but 95 Nebraska was pre-BCS. My original post was only for the BCS era.

Good point. I'm so used to the debate on "greatest ever" team coming down to those two, I missed the original statement.

I also really don't like "Da U".

That's one of the most delusional posts I've read all day

You must not read much.

Bama fans bitching about how much they were getting ragged after 11/5 to justify all the 21-0 since pretty much invalidates your post:

I've got no problem with anyone talking trash, or with the winning team rubbing it in a little bit.

There is NO way that in the one month leading up to the BCSCG LSU fans could rag Bama fans with 9-6 as much as Bama fans have ragged LSU fans since with 21-0.
quote:

This garbage about Bama fans disrespecting the game and hurting feelings due to the way we rubbed it in

Trust me, my feelings aren't hurt, the above just exposes how common Bama fans have become since the 80s.

Now Bama just looks like another UF, LSU, AU. It's hard to feel the same respect I had for that program as I did when Bear Bryant was still coaching. It was always the team I wanted to beat the most, yet felt no shame in losing to - unlike Ole Miss or Tulane where the shame in a loss was palpable.

If the "9-6" trend hadn't started, you folks wouldn't have had to deal with years, and years, and years (and years) of "21-0". You people brought that on yourselves, and now you want to cry about it. I don't have a single ounce of sadness in my heart for the way you feel about seeing "21-0" being posted on a message board. You earned it, and Bama just happened to get the last say so. It happens.

There are some cool LSU fans on this board who "get it". Ask them.

Not a bad post. Those 2 games probably were the closest to old school '50s and '60s - style SEC defense.
You're right it truly was amazing to see 2 high-scoring teams (against everybody else :) hold each other to 9 FGs in two games (until that last run by Trent R.)
I remember seeing posts from northern and western CFB fans saying it was boring and there was no offense, but, that's the way the game was meant to be played.

I remember the 9-6 game especially, people's butts were on the edge of their seats just about every play....

almost every team in the NFL fields a better defense than either LSU or Alabama from 2011

It is different when you have a team full of professional athletes spending all of their time on football.

I'm pretty sure I remember that Miami team beating top 15 teams in back to back weeks by a combined score of 124-7.

Yeah, if you take out the 11 senior starters they lost it was pretty much the same team.

Yup, LSU's defense was on the field all night.

And Bama turned a green AJ lose on first down leading to 5 F.G.'s
