John L was definitely the worst coach, but you can't really call him the worst hire.
For one, he was never intended to remain as head coach for more than one season. Secondly, at the time Petrino was fired, the coaching carousel had stopped turning for the most part. At that point, there really weren't many options.

Garrick McGee wouldve been a better option than John L.
He went 5-19 at UAB and was run out of town. What makes you think he would have made any larger of a difference than John L did? A gut feeling?
Sounds like you just want to shite on Arkansas.

But my point is, why does he not count? Is it just to make that season forgettable?
Do you understand what the concept of apples-to-apples means?

I dont want to shite on Arky at all. John L was hired, arky went 4-8. IMO it was the worst SEC corching hire of the BCS era. Its not vindictive, its just my opinion. No reason to get all butthurt.

That's a good point.

7 Mike Stoops (Arizona)
8 John L. Smith (Michigan State, Arkansas)
9 Bill Callahan (Nebraska)
10 Dan Hawkins (Colorado)
Chizik won a title...lol!
John L was the interim coach and I dont think evcer offered the job out right...this list sucks.

This would be on the list had A&M been in the SEC. For whatever reason that just didn't work.

Can't put Chiz on that list due to 2010 BCS title.
CAN put Mike Price on that list and, indirectly, Mike Shula (who wouldn't have ever been hired - in MAY no less - if not for the Mike Price hire).

Here is mine
1 John L. Smith Arkansas
2 Sylvester Croom Mississippi State
3 Derek Dooley Tennessee
4 Ed Orgeron Ole Miss
5 Houston Nutt Ole Miss
6 Ron Zook Florida
7 Dennis Franchione Alabama
8 Lane Kiffin Tennessee
9 Gerry DiNardo LSU
10 Gene Chizik Auburn
Both lists are shite without Fat Bradstard Scott (South Carolina) at #1.
Name another coach who sent any SEC team into an 0-21 nose dive.
Brad Scott is a piece of shite, worst hire in the history of the SEC.

Won't argue that, but he was a pre-BCS hire.

Look, by the end Gene couldn't get out of here fast enough but prob 90% of coaches in America would glady suffer a 2012 type season in exchange for 14-0 against the toughest division in college football history.

How was it a bad hire? More wins than FIU is used to, then he had one bad season and they freak out and fire him. Then they turn around and have an even worse season
He's a good coach

I don't get the Chiz thing. He had a few mediocre years, one absolutely horrible one, but he also held up the Crystal. Was it lightning in a bottle? Who the frick cares. Also, I am not sure we have Gus as our HC if not for Coach Chiz bringing him in. There is just no way Chiz is a top ten worst hire in the BCS era.

27-47 in 6 years. Granted he was only thier second coach but he left the program in the same shape it was in and is famous(using this term loosely) for a very ugly fight.

I know no one cares about UK, but Joker Phillips is borderline retarded. He was a horrific hire. They actually had something brewing in Lexington.
He was OC under Brooks. That's the reason they're hired him to begin with. Easy to look back now and say it was a shite hire when they were trying to maintain consistency. No one expected it to fall off that quickly under him.
