He's not the only Manning to lose to Memphis, but it's still awful.

True but losing to Tech really puts him over the top. Oh and he hastened the rise of the evil empire by losing to Saban for LSU's first NC in 45 years. God dammit I hate ole miss

Cutcliffe - he was winning at OM and they fired him for one bad year. Serves them right that they sucked for years after that.

Uh, I'd argue that they got just as much or more out of Houston Nutt in two years than they got out of Cutcliffe in 6 years.

Given that I'm a Hog fan and have loathed Houston Nutt for a decade, that's saying something.

Better question: Who benefitted more from the previous regime's talent...Cutcliffe with Tuberville's players or Nutt with Orgeron's players?

I say Cut.

I'd say Nutt. Cutcliffe never did better than 7 reg. season wins and a Indy Bowl win with Tubby's players, while Nutt went 9-4 twice and won 2 Cotton Bowls.

And I hate Houston Nutt, so I'm being objective.

Cutcliffe honestly told Ole Miss what he was capable of doing going to ball game most seasons and maybe a 10 win season one in four but that they would never dominate the SEC.

They said not good enough bye

Incorrect. He was fired because he didn't go along with Boone's micromanagement, specifically, Boone's directive to shitcan Chick Driesback as DC. There was other stuff going on behind that, involving an influential person flexing his muscle.

Cut wasn't exactly dazzling, but he was steady, a class act, and loyal. Also, the notion that he quit, or didn't work hard, is total bullshite.

UT not hiring him to replace Fulmer instead of Kiffin.

Ole Miss firing Cutcliffe. If he can win 10 games at Duke, he could do ever better than that at OM.

I think Ole Miss not only needs a fairly good onfield coach, but one that is more than happy to turn a blind eye to what is going on behind the scenes of recruiting...enter Hugh Freeze.

We got Craig James mad at us too when OM tapped Texas tech's arse, his son's team

Craig James is a big bitch for getting leach fired, and for being a sand packed vagina on the air of espn everyday for weeks after OM beat that arse.

I don't think mark may gave a shite about us beating Pitt in Birmingham last year. But yeah he had no problem being on trev albert's poking fun at ole miss. "The Runts" was what they were calling us, in the process both of them were discrediting every positive thing OM did that season. Mark may was a Jackie sherrill guy, that's why he didn't and still doesn't like ole miss

He won 10 at ole miss in 03.

That 03 team lost to Texas tech and Memphis. If he wins those two like he should have, with a team led by a manning and nearly made it to the sec championship game, we would've been in a bcs bowl and Eli would have won the heisman. He is a better coach now, I can't believe how many times he takes risks now. At ole miss he was the most conservative coach I had ever seen, he would punt on 4th and inches with the ball on the 40.

The reason he wasn't doing his job was because his health was failing him. Even if he wasn't fired his failing health was going to force him to step down soon after.

He is at the perfect job now, no pressure at duke. He can just have fun doing what he does best. At a high pressure job his health problems may return

He wouldn't make coaching staff changes that were obviously needed, he had almost completely stopped recruiting

Cut learned those moves from Fulmer

were the facilities that ole miss now has in place when CUT was supposedly not recruiting?

as I recall he pissed boone off (something about Cut complaining about busing somewhere) and boone was more than happy to issue an embarrassing ultimatum after the '04 year knowing full well Cut's refusal would give him justification for termination.

as for the '04 season, I think missing on a qb recruit (robert lane) sank the season more than the defense.
