What if you got your undergrad at Bama (football), grad at UK (basketball), and doctorate at LSU (baseball)?

Born and raised in KY, parents went to UK, whole family and every kid in N'hood growing up were UK fans - Basketball fan.

Grandparents were fans of the Bear from when he coached at UK, grew up watching Bama anytime they were on TV.
Went to and graduated from bama in '92 - football fan.

UK basketball and Bama football have such historical similarities that their history is to be respected even if not a fan. I'm not gonna give up my fandom on either.

The worst kind of fan is the kind that thinks that whatever way they act is the only right way. And the stupidest thing any fan does is the current trend of trash talking with nothing to back it up currently or historically.

I've met several Ohio State Football/Kentucky Basketball fans. Talk about loathing a group of mouthbreathers.

gotta be this one. really no excuse for this allegiance

I can see it. I know two kids who have these allegiances. Grandfather on one side went to UA, both grandparents on the other side played basketball at UK.

Doesn't bother me all that much.

Personally I root for all the teams at UK across the board no matter how bad/how good.

Was always real cute when these same fans gave up their "allegiance" to Kentucky while Lofton and Pearl was at UT but is right back to rooting for Kentucky again.

The worst are Ohio state fans who come down to Kentucky for school. Dammit I want drag them all back up to the Ohio river and chuck em in.

They are the flat bill, jersey wearing, line beard having, bland food eating, northern superiority having scum of the earth. But they also love Kentucky basketball.

The worst comment from them is as follows: "I just wanted to go to school in the south". *face palm*
I was really floored at how midwestern the student body at UK was when I went there for a long weekend for a football game. Flatbills and hoodies as far as the eye could see.

On a related note, does anyone else have personal rules on who can/can't be a fan of a certain team? These rules affect nothing except my level of respect for you. Mine are as follows.

1. If you live in or are from the state where the team is. OK
2. If you live in a state where there is no professional team, you must be a fan of the closest team/traditional team for your area. EX. Mississippians are traditionally Saints fans (if they give a shite about the NFL at all) because there is no NFL team in MS, so it is ok to be a Saints fan. It is NOT ok to just pick a random team. If you live in Laurel MS, you have no business being a Patriots fan and I will not respect your fandom.
3. If you move to a new state or city, you are automatically allowed to be a fan of the local team, but it is optional and don't be a douche about it.
4. If you went to a college. OK
5. If a CLOSE family member attended or attends the college.
Daughter/Father/Grandmother, etc. OK. Second cousin/great uncle, etc. Not OK.

These rules are to be reviewed on a case by case basis with penalties to include: me calling you a dumbass and/or making fun of your Yankees cap.

Anyone else have any team affiliation rules that I didn't cover?

The fans I hate the most are the sidewalk Alabama fans that just recently came to the dark side and act like assholes and make the real fans look bad.

I don't have any hard and fast rules like that, but there should be a valid reason for your fandom.

For instance, MLB fandom in Louisiana is very scattered. There are Astros and Rangers fans due to proximity. Cubs fans due to growing up watching them on WGN. Braves fans because of TBS. I'm a Cardinals fan because my mom's whole side of the family lives in STL and I grew up going to Cardinals games. Those, to me, are all valid reasons. But then there are the front running douches that pull for the Yankees and Red Sox. They are terrible fans.

Ole Miss. Period.

But in contribution to this thread, the types of fans that pull for different teams like you alluded to are in fact the scum of the sports world.

There is a guy calls a local radio show here in Jackson. His handle is Laker Fan Rod.

He pulls for the Lakers/Bama/and the Yankees. He ends every call with "Roll Tide guys"

It's borderline pathetic.

Alabama Football/Vanderbilt Basketball (only when they are good though)

And people actually want VT in the SEC. MOST of the VT fanbase is like this, but with Duke/UNC basketball.
The only thing I am certain about regarding VT. It will increase the number of UK fans
