No problem with this. But I am sick of MSU posters acting as if Saturday was a close game. Alabama, as it has since Saban arrived, went conservative once they had a lead on a good team.

I hope the committee does the right thing here. State at #4.

Putting them back in the top 4 could mean a rematch with Alabama, can you believe that??

quote:Gosh! That sounds very similar to Alabama/LSU a few years ago. I guess that you felt the same way about Alabama then, huh?...for what it's worth, I think that State should make the playoffs if they win out, even if Alabama has to play an extra game (SECC game), and then has to play State in the playoffs...but that's just me.
It would suck for MSU because I think that State and Bama are the 2 best teams in the country (at this point).

No. They are a very good team.

You can't compare 2011 and 2014 because there are 2 different systems. In 2011 (prior to 1/9) IMO Alabama was deserving of being #3 not #2.

I suspect that MSU is going to need some help. They have a top 4 team... they don't have top 4 recognition though. If Oregon doesn't collapse down the home stretch they are in. The same for FSU. TCU and tOSU are going to be fumbling it out for the last spot and State would have a very hard time moving past two conference champions.
So, either someone in that group of four teams has to lose or Bama has to drop another SEC game this season. Which means, with only one SEC game for the Tide left, Auburn has to knock off Bama for State to get into the Championship game.

I'll be offended if they aren't.
One loss at Alabama with their resume should still be in the top 4.

Or Auburn has to beat Alabama. I am a Bama fan but still think AU gets up for that one. It is not a foregone conclusion that Bama wins that game.

...and yes, the 2 scenarios are very, very similar, and if Alabama has to play in the SECCG, while State sits then it'll be scary similar.

Well done, sir. Way to be self-aware as a fan.
Back to topic, it is a good point that State has the best loss ON THE ROAD to what will be a top 2 team if Bama wins out.
If State wins out, they have the strongest case of the 1 loss teams, in my opinion under the current set up.
Even though I am a State graduate and fan, I still think that only Conference champions should go to the playoff until they expand to 6 or 8 teams. Take the top 4 conference champs. If they go to 6 teams, take the 5 conference champs plus one at-large team. That is the only really fair way to do it.
You should not win the National Championship if you cannot win your division or conference. It makes no sense.

$$$$, nobody (ESPN, advertising ppl, etc) wants to see a 1 loss non SEC champ MSU over a 1 loss Ohio State. It sucks but that is the way the cookie will crumble.
This. They deserve #4 right now, but if Bama wins out I don't think there's any way they let MSU into the final four over other 1-loss conference champs.

No y'all would still deserve it

MSU's only decent win is over Auburn and we suck. On what basis should they be top 4. Your OOC will end up keeping you out of the final poll, unless there are 2 loss champions. Pull against OSU.

If State wins out it's going to be an interesting committee discussion to say the least. First real test of the new system. Bad thing for MSU is they lack a real quality non conference game. MSU needs Ole Miss to beat Ark. Would also help if Bama lost to Auburn or in SEC title game which would not shock me.
Posted on 11/17/14 at 9:26 am to MeridianDog
No, but I am betting you will be offended when they are not in the top 4.

Is it ok to be the Super Bowl, NBA or World Series champs without winning your division? Is it ok for you to win the College World Series or Final Four without winning your own division? If all these are accepted and no one ever fusses about them, why should college football be any different? Its about finding and crowning the best team. Not the best Conference Winner. Get over this and accept college football should be like all other sports college and pro.

To appease the anti-SEC crowd State will be ranked 5th IMO. Auburn and LSU wins not looking so good anymore. They still should be ranked up there but such is the way of the new world.
Posted on 11/17/14 at 9:34 am to MeridianDog
Not at all. Ole Miss stayed in the top 4 after losing at LSU. I expect State to be at number 4 Tuesday night.
It will likely be 1. Alabama. 2. Oregon. 3. FSU. 4. Mississippi State.

I agree with you and at the end of the day MSU will not be in the top 4 for the playoffs unless Auburn pulls a win out of their arse over Bama which looks highly unlikely. MSU would still need to win out.
