Spurrier always said he wouldn't set any longevity records, but he has changed his mind on that now that he is older it seems.

Unless we have abysmal years, I don't see him leaving in the next two- three years regardless of what he says.
The man is in good condition and he is enjoying coaching. We've been hearing he is retiring in the next 2-3 years for seven years now.

To answer the original question, hopefully not. May he rot in gator urine. Just kidding. Not.

One thing is certain: Spurrier will be rustling UGA jimmies form here to eternity.

I don't know enough about it to say anything different from what he said in interviews/statements.

Recruiting is a game and Spurrier - as much as he tells it like it is - has to play the game just like everyone else if he wants to compete.
nah, he's a badass O-G, he can basically do whatever he wants. He doesn't go and tell recruits they'll start from day 1 and he doesn't go and tell every player he'll be there for 4+ years. This was a specific case, where he made a promise to a specific player. So I'm not going to call him a liar or say he's playing the game. I understand that you would, but I don't care.

There is this thing Spurrier said he intended to do from the very onset. Matter of fact I remember him declaring it at a country music concert, that ghey guy from Tennessee who is a big Spurrier fan - can remember his name. But anyway, it was like 2006 or so, maybe 2007, and Spurrier was there in his suite and he came out on stage - what the hell is that singer's name, little guy, ghey, Vol fan?
Anyways, Spurrier came out on stage that night, he had been drinking but there was a huge Carolina fan base there at that concert, including my wife and I because we were given tickets, and he said he intended to get us to the point where we expected to beat Georgia and Clemson every year - and now we do. We absolutely do.
Better yet, Georgia and Clemson fans expect us to beat them as well ... as long as Spurrier is here I suppose.

I see him getting frustrated over not being able to get over the hump on an SEC championship and hanging it up in the next 2-3 years.

Well, technically he doesn't have to be because there is no buyout agreement for either side if either side were to decide to end the relationship ....
But Spurrier and Tanner are really very good friends and I just don't see the relationship souring now that Hyman is gone. Both of them were thinking of leaving until Hyman was told if he got another offer he needed to take it - and Spurrier seems to be genuinely enjoying life around here doing new "firsts" every season.
What was it he said the other day about the upcoming season?
Being the first to win 11 games three years in a row.
Reading 100 wins.
Winning a SEC title.
There are some other "firsts" he has on his radar, I just cannot remember them all right now. He knows what they are though and he is after all of them.
Oh yeah, and he said this one ... four wins in a row over Georgia. Seemed to be a big deal for him while he is here at South Carolina. Said something about beating them seven times in a row down at Florida and saw absolutely no reason why it cannot be done here if we set our minds to it.
Most of us would agree I believe.

at 5-6 years older than Saban, i will say this... he's gonna quit within 5 years! fa'sho!
why keep goin? he knows how hard it is to win it all... at S carolina.
*edit*
i say that with all due respect to s.car fans.. it's just a horrible place to try to win a NC imho.

Damn, Spurrier has been at South Carolina almost as long as he was at Florida. Crazy..

Wouldn't say "horrible." I think you may be over dramatizing it there, but I would say tough ... like it is at most programs all over the country.
Would you elaborate on the "horrible" thing - be a little more specific as far as what makes it a horrible place to try to win a MNC, at South Carolina?

LSU pre-Saban wasn't that much better than South Carolina pre-Spurrier.
LSU (1990-1999)
54-58-1
3 bowl wins
3 bowl appearances
2 top 25 finishes
3 winning seasons
South Carolina (1995-2004)
49-64-1
3 bowl wins
3 bowl appearances
2 top 25 finishes
4 winning seasons
The only difference is that one program had a coach who worked tirelessly to turn the losing program into a national power. The other program's coach made excuses.

And LSU has the state of Louisiana's high school football talent...

South Carolina has a worse football history than Vandy. If he won a national title there it would be the most impressive national title win for any coach that I can think of.
And I'm not trying to be a dick, but go back and look at USCe football historically.

You're comparing one of the worst eras of LSU football to the best era (pre-Spurrier) of USCe football.

Anyone that has been to USC to see a SEC FB game knows their fans love their team. IMO, the most important thing to building a winning program is how crazy your fans are. How much do they support your team, win or lose? USC fans are as nutty as the rest of us. I do think they need a facility upgrade but that's about it. They will be in the hunt for it all this year. If UGA can be 5 yards short of an NC then so can USC. The margin is that small.

He's not, we went 0-11 one of those seasons, look at the years he's using.

I thought Holtz had some decent years before Spurrier got there. I'm not saying it was good, but compared to the rest of USCe football history, it was probably the best couple years other than Spurrier, right?
