Just wondering if he's talked about his future plans. I didn't realize he was 67.

pretty sure it is enjoying the booze and beautiful seaside golf course of South Carolina. So in a way it is better than retirement. Plus he is like that crazy uncle of the SEC.

Yes, he will be a coach into his 70's as long as there isn't some overwhelming health risk.

Has he talked about this or is that just an educated guess?

He says he is going to '72 and then quitting unless he wins a MNC between now and then.

I've heard him speak recently, a couple of times, and he says he feels good, always passes his physicals with flying colors. Says he feels like he did in his 40s. Says the state is perfect for him with the golf courses and the weather. He's got a couple of homes here, one in Columbia and one on the beach plus he still has his place down in St Augustine. He's got his boat docked up here.

He's making three million a year, adding to the inheritance for his large family. Steve, Jr., (we call him Bubba) has had five kids here, his wife is a big wig at the nursing department at USC, like top dog over there. They plan on staying awhile. He's made some good friends here.

So, yeah, honestly, he just told some of the new recruits he will be here at least until they graduate - that would probably take him to '72. You never know, but he sure seems happy here as long as he still has "firsts" to do.

Plus, one more thing. He just went on record as saying he wants 100 wins here, plus he thinks he is in reach of The Bear's SEC win total record.

Someone might correct me if I am wrong, but I think, I'm not sure, but I think Spurrier needs 39 SEC wins to pass The Bear on the all-time SEC wins total. It may be 40, I'm just not sure and I was drunk that night when he was talking. Alright, nevermind, my son just told me the guy who introduced him that night said Spurrier needed 43 more wins to catch The Bear and Spurrier said, "ahhh, I dunno, I doubt that's gonna happen. I'm not even thinking about that one."

That one probably seems a little outta reach to me.

But if he won 100 games here he would be the only coach in SEC history to win 100 games or more at two different SEC schools and we know for a fact he is shooting for that one. He needs 34 more here.

Alright, my son is telling me the rest of it over my shoulder. All time wins as an SEC coach, he needs three more to pass Johnny Vaught, 10 more to pass Dan McGuinn (sp), 14 wins to pass Vince Dooley for second place and he'll never catch The Bear's 292 wins as an SEC coach, (60 at Kentucky and 232 at Bama).

So yeah, that's a lot to read and most will not, but yes, it seems pretty clear that he intends to stay long enough to reach some of those other milestones.

I must say he does look good for his age. Hopes he keeps it up for a while longer.

Probably, you're probably right although you're a smarmy-assed probably right, but who knows. Stranger things have happened and right now we're just about as poised as anyone else in the conference to do it - who knows. As with anyone else, the ball would have to bounce our way and we'd have to have some breaks but the HBC sure seems to have his guys believing right now, and we sure do seem to be loaded for bear this season.

He told Connor Mitch, our QB recruit this past year who has a lot of NC records now, that if he came to USC, he would stay here through his collegiate career. So that would make me think 4-5 more years, which would put him at 72. We'll see what happens after that, but I believe Spurrier is mentally committed to being at USC as long as Mitch.

Meyer told Floyd he had a dream of him coaching him and told all the players he'd be there. No coach is going to tank their recruiting by admitting to retiring or leaving in the near future. I see him getting frustrated over not being able to get over the hump on an SEC championship and hanging it up in the next 2-3 years.

He may coach into his 70's, but he'll whine into his 90's.

Spurrier has a record of telling it like it is. I think if he tells a recruit something like, I'll coach as long as you're here, he means it. Meyer isn't Spurrier, he left b/c his health/family reasons. Then I guess he missed the money and success so he got a job at OSU.

You don't actually buy Meyer's story do you? I certainly don't after he quit then came back a few months later then quit again at the end of the season. But seriously - no coach is going to tell a recruit "yeah I'm leaving in two years but hey come here and play for me anyway.. maybe we'll hire a good coach for your junior/senior year.". Recruiting is a game and Spurrier - as much as he tells it like it is - has to play the game just like everyone else if he wants to compete.
