You do realize Boom is not our HC, right?
This thread is dumb.

Every time someone types "boom" a defensive angel loses it's wings

Let me preface this by saying WM is a great DC. However, a lot of people think he is one of the best defensive minds in all of football, including the NFL. He is way overrated in that regard.

As a college DC most of his success was while he was under other great defensive minds. At Texas, he really only had one year with an elite defense.

At Florida, the 2012 team was an elite defense, but there was so much talent from Meyers ridiculous 2010 recruiting class, and also had Dan Quinn along side of him.

After that, our defenses were good statistically, but I think inflated due to the extremely slow pace our offense played at. Our third and long defense last year was so ridiculously bad.

Urban will demand offensive changes. Don't be surprised if this year is Gus' slowest offense since becoming HC.

There's some stupid in this thread and you just stepped in it with both feet, and now spreading it all over your post.

Well he didn't do that at AU before, or LSU...

He did pretty well at Texas too, and the situations you describe only got worse after he left Austin... hmmm wonder what that says about his role in it?

He's not a good HC, but as a DC he's more than earned the fear you're displaying in this thread.

But we all know what this is really about, don't we? You're still butt hurt over 2/3 and in particular one 49-9 arse beating.

Make no mistake, boom only cares about his reputation. He is only coaching this year to fix his resume for his next job. He isn't going to tolerate Gus' offense hurting his #'s.

I feel dumber after reading this thread. Muschamp has coached at Auburn before with a lot of success.

It was the collective opinion of this board that Lane Kiffin would destroy Bama and that hasn't happened. In fact the total opposite happened and his offense heelped get Bama to the playoffs. So, I seriously doubt that Muschamp will destroy AU. AU could hardly get worse on defense than they were last year.

This is exactly right. I feel like the Auburn offense, just by virtue of being a different kind of offense with different weapons, MAY take a small step back this year...but bet your arse, Auburn is going to be remarkably better on defense. At the very least jumping from worst to middle of the pack.

Here is the great news. We are all about to find out. All of these questions...and the closer obvious troll threads get to the actual season, the more they'll be remembered. Sorry to disappoint you but Auburn and TAMU just went out and got the best DC's in the conference, and possibly the country. You know it...the same way the rest of us knew we were in for it when y'all got Saban. You are a gump, right?

Just out of curiosity, I've only interacted with other SEC fans on one other site and troll threads were really discouraged. Here they are really common. Is this just SOP for this board...that you sort of have to sift thru the troll threads to participate in the real ones?

First, I think Muschamp will do a good job at Auburn.
But your post confuses me...

quote:

The problem he had with his career is that he was hired as a HC, when the trend was toward Offensive Minded Coaches

OK. i can see your logic with this.

quote:

If Mack Brown would have retired as expected, TX would be dominating the state and Will would be considered a top 10 HC.

Here is where you lose me. If his problem as a HC was that the trend was going towards Offensive Minded coaches, why would the results have been different at Texas? Wasn't that the trend in Texas, too?

Again...I think you guys made a great hire and are lucky to have him. I just feel like you are contradicting yourself.
