I read it. Your words don't make Butch a good coach. There are no more excuses for him.

You lost to Butch last year and you will lose to Butch again this year. You'll continue to underachieve like you do every year.

You talking about UGA? If so, I would note that they have won as many SEC titles as UT has, since SEC integration.

Alabama, Florida, LSU, and Auburn have all won more.

Don't take this as an affront, but there was life before the SEC integrated as there was with all sports, amateur and professional. That time has a place in any discussion, too.

PS- Wasn't Tennessee's Condredge Holloway one of the earlier black players in the SEC?

Two relevant points here regarding pre-integration.

#1- Some of the best players never got to set foot on SEC fields, so that is a clear line of different eras, and Tennessee's most consistent title contenders came in those lily white years. As for going forward, Tennessee high school football doesn't produce very many blue chip players for a reason. Need I elaborate? UGA and UF will be the favorites, longterm, in the East.

#2- Integration in or around 1970 was a hell of a long time ago, and the fact that Tennessee is tied for 5th in SEC titles since then belies the suggestion that they are still the 2nd best team in the SEC.

It isn't complex.

1st black QB in the SEC. Bryant wanted him, but was honest and told him that it was too soon for a black QB at Bama. Holloway went to Tennessee because Battle gave him a shot at QB. Props to the Bear for not lying to the kid.

Just start with making 1, because you've failed to do so this entire thread.

I'd say stone cold facts, such as UT is tied for 5th since integration is very relevant.

You wish it were not so, but unfortunately for you, it is.

They're also 5th in the SEC in winning pct in that same time frame. Tied for 5th in titles and 5th in winning pct, so that's a pretty good clue that UT is.....5th best program in the SEC since 1970.

Here's the thing, I've stopped reading anything you post. Because you suck, quite frankly. You're now in the same category as reel_gator. From now on, you're strictly an automatic downvote.

Have a nice day

Well you just did read it and even responded to it. Unfortunately, you can't respond with a point that refutes the facts. That's the cool thing about facts. You can't spin them away.

Your football program says otherwise as of this day and age.

I appreciate your enthusiasm and respect your appreciation for history however.

You keep coming back to this point. The title of the thread is

Why is Tennessee so important to the SEC?

your integration point is nice and all, but that doesn't mean you can discount the years before that. The SEC began before integration, and UT is a major factor in SEC history.

So what if we're tied for 5th with UGA since 1970. All things equal, we've won a national championship much more recently so that gives us the edge. So since 1970, with 25% of that time being the lowest point in our history were still 4th in the sec according to whatever criteria you're using. Take all time history into account, were 2nd only to Bama. Whatever way you slice it, were doing pretty well for ourselves.
