Mizzou integrated around 1958. I think we may be first in the SEC

And now you're doubling down on your poor argument. Enjoy yourself.

You obviously cannot debate the point of fact.

Oh yeah? Well good for you guys. The SEC teams of that era were obviously a little late to do so.

Your entire argument is "if you just take away most of the SEC's history and use a measure that includes their worst down period, they're 5th."

The SEC was established in 1932, and for about 38 years, until around 1970, it was all white boys, and UT was the 2nd best SEC team. In the 46 years since integrated SEC teams, UT is 5th best. Best I can figure, 46 years is greater than 38, so the white boy's club was in no way "most of the SEC's history".

So now you're playing semantics and avoiding the pesky fact that when you add all the years up in the SEC and measure them together instead of splitting them apart to create you're own narrative, we're 2nd.

Whatever makes you feel good about yourself, then keep on keeping on.

There are new coaching staffs at UGA, USC, Missouri, and McElwain is in his 2nd year at UF, so UT should win the East this year. Maybe that'll help your self esteem too.

I haven't read the thread or anything, but I was wondering if anyone said, "They aren't important to the SEC."?

That's what I would have said. They've been irrelevant since I was a kid. That was awhile back.

That's basically what I said back on page one, but I didn't want to be mean about it, so I simply said.....

"They used to be the 2nd best SEC team. Won some titles back in the 30s through the 50s, back before integration."

And that's evidently what set this other guy off so bad.

One of the greatest QBs of all time just retired from the NFL after a VERY long career. The last time Tennessee was worth a shite he was their QB.

Tennessee is an afterthought in today's college football landscape.

and ole miss has been an afterthought since the early 60's. at least UT won a Natty in '98 and has played for the SEC title in this millennium.

you kids think the world started the day you were born and anything that happened before then was inferior. guess what. you are wrong.

Tennessee has won a BCS championship since Peyton Manning was our QB. How retarded are you?

I'm not going to read this whole thread, but, just from one Dore fan's perspective, Tennessee has quite earned its place in the upper echelons of the SEC for quite some time to come. A bad decade here and there doesn't change that. There's a whole lot of real estate between "Bama" and "not important to the SEC" and Tennessee lies squarely in that region, and will until they've had a lot more futility than just a scattered couple of decades.

John, after reading all your posts on this subject, you seem to imply that you believe that either the black talent pool in Tennessee is inferior to other states, or Tennessee doesn't recruit black players very well...for whatever reason. Which is it?...or both.

Outside of Memphis, Knoxville, and Nashville, that "pool" isn't very deep. I have ridden all over that state, and the rural areas and small towns, which are most of the state, are very white. Is that a factor as to why UT is 5th best in the SEC since integration? I suppose it is. I don't think it's the primary factor, but it's reasonable to think it's probably A factor among others.

edit: And other schools seem to recruit Memphis at least as well as UT does.

That guy keeps trying to spin away from the very real and very simple fact that since 1970 UT is the 5th best team in the SEC, measured by SEC titles, and by conference winning pct.

If he ever wants to debate that point, rather than trying to spin away from it, then let me know.
