UF is the premier program in the SEC, it is one of 4 or 5 I'd list as elite nationwide. Miami is a shell of its former self. Miami's facilities are way behind all major programs while Uf's is at or near the top in most columns.

1. Fan support
2. Recruiting pipelines already built to UF
3. Facilities
4. Recent history and press coverage puts UF over Miami.

Last 6 Miami bowl games:

2004 Peach Bowl Miami 27, Florida 10
2005 Peach Bowl: LSU 40, Miami 3
2006 MPC Computers Bowl: Miami 21, Nevada 20
2008 Emerald Bowl: Cal 24, Miami 17
2009 Champs Sports Bowl: Wisconsin 20, Miami 14
2010 Sun Bowl: To be played

No BCS bowl since 1/1/2004
Last conference championship in 2003

It's been a long fricking time since Miami was at their very best.

The SEC has 4 BCS titles in a row. We are the very best conference and Florida is a damn good team in that conference. One down year didn't change that.

Glad Saban didnt think this way before taking the LSU job or we would still suck arse.

These JOhnny come lately programs think the world of college football started in the 2000's....

If I were a coach, I would prefer Miami over Fla. Much easier to win and be succesfull in the ACC compared to the SEC and quality of life in Miami is better than Gainsville.

If you win, the fans will show up again and Miami will once again become "The U".

It's a fact, Miami is a easier place to win. The ACC is a cake walk compared to the SEC.

And yet, Miami has never even won their division in the ACC.

Easier path doesn't mean better job IMO.

You didn't answer my question either.

RRR,

I should have added you in the gator hater list from last night.

Which school will get their pick of the coach they want first?

Me too....

Gator fans need to realize there is a difference between a more high profile job versus a better job.....Is Florida a better program? Hell yes...More high profile? Hell yeah...better job.....to some yes, to some no. Personally, I would rather live in Miami, compete against Florida State, Clemson and Va. Tech with a somewhat reasonable fan base(hell, I feel if Shannon would have won the last game, he might have survived) versus a school like Florida or LSU for that matter, that if you don't win a national championship every other year, your fanbase is grumbling and you can be shown the door......Better job does not always means the team with the best record or facilities...it's big factor but not the only thing.

Depends on the person and how they tick...but gun to my, I would agree with you, Florida would get first choice. But there is a new breed of coach out there...those who truly appreciate the quality of life aspect.... that if asked would politely decline and would be intrigued by the Miami job. You have guys like the coaches at TCU and Boise, if I was them, I would never leave..they are gods where they are...Why would they leave that to come to a LSU or Florida where they want to fire their coach for losing two or three games.....

Jorts,

Did you not understand in my last post that Miami has Not won because they've had bad coaching, Randy Shannon, and Florida has won because they've had good coaching Meyer.

How did you miss this

They have had two coaches now while in the ACC, FWIW.

I guess it depends on the coach you are looking for. IMO, a competitive, confident coach is going to want the challenge of trying to win the SEC with a premier program.

I think Miami's program took a huge hit when they demolished the Orange Bowl

Should have just renovated it

Playing in an NFL stadium away from campus is just lame

Miami= Cuba, new York and most of the northeast. Very few true hurricane floridians.

Gainesville still has rich southern traditions and people who are not fair weather fans.

Just sayin...

Possibly the funniest quote I've read on the board yet...

Good one!

Wait... Is he serious?

I know huh? To me, the only thing funnier is when folks try to downgrade Miami with the Little Haiti, Cuba, blah blah comments. They act like the coach of Miami is going to live across the street from a crackhouse.....Star Island people!!!!!There is bad Miami(like any other major metropolitan area) and there is MIAMI.......Miami>Gainsville.....nobody is debating who has the better program...that goes without saying.... we are debating what's the better job.....and there are a ton of factors that play into that.....

Why did Corch leave Utah to coach at Florida? I'm sure it would have been easier dominating the Mountain West or whichever conference they were in at the time. Why did Nick Saban leave the comfort of Michigan State to come to LSU? Why did he leave he leave his kingdom in Baton Rouge to coach in the NFL, which is far more cut throat than college? Why did he then go to Bama, one of the most rabid fan bases in college football?

These coaches have a different mindset from you or me. They crave the challenge. They have a desire for excellence and to reach the pinnacle of their sport. If Petersen comes to the realization that Boise can never win it all, I wouldn't be surprised if he were to start entertaining job offers. TCU is finally joining a "legit" conference. As for Miami having an easier path than Florida, is that really true? The SEC East was pretty weak this year.

I wouldn't hold my breath on it being down for long. It's only a matter of time until UT and UGA return, not to mention USC will be good for the next few years, ALSO Florida picks up a very difficult SEC West schedule in the upcoming 3-4 years
