Alabama has a much longer tradition than Miami's for one. Two, Bama has always had strong fan support; Miami, not so much. Alabama plays in the best conference in college ball; Miami, not so much. Apples and oranges.
Florida before Spurrier was a sleeping giant (as was LSU before Saban). That giant is fully awake. Florida has better facilities, better fan support, money, larger alumni base, stronger recent history, etc., etc. It will be much easier for Florida to recover from a downturn than Miami because of those resources. It is a much stronger position than Miami for future success. That is why is it a better job.

Frankly, I don't ever expect Miami to return to the levels it was at in the 80s 90s and early 2000s.
The fan support is brutal the stadium isn't on campus and Miami is a bad sports town unless it's the heat or fish.
Florida is part of the the 2 billion SEC package with ESPN.
They sell out have an on campus stadium and Gainsville revolves around football.
Miami is too preoccupied in being Miami sun chicks and clubs etc ...

Because at the end of the day, UF is a better school and the Gators are a better football team.

Current football team maybe better, but Miami is a MUCH better school. That is common knowledge, if you don't believe it, you're lying to yourself.

You honestly don't think the fan support in florida is based on recent success?
The ENTIRE state of florida has horrible fans, not just Miami. If Miami make a great hire and UF misses, they will trade places and florida will slip right down to were Miami has been for 5 years.
We all know florida is rich in talent, but a lot of the premier talent comes from the Miami area, if they can get some one who will keep it there, the fan support will return, so will the donations, then they can improve facilities...etc.
Florida is not unique, especially because of FSU and Miami. It is not like a Ohio St., Alabama, Nebraska, Tennessee, or Notre Dame. Those schools may have down time but will come back. UF has never has success until Spurrier came in 1989.

There's also the direction of the programs to consider. That's more important than ten year win totals, etc. Hell, I'm sure several programs could boast a better 10 year win total than Alabama, but does that mean they are in better shape than Saban's program right now?

State school with all of its funding and facilities vs small private school with less of all of the above.
Money in / money out and the top coaches want both.

1979 = last time Florida did not have a sell out. 3rd longest streak in nation.
So yeah, I honestly think fan support is not about recent success.

Um, no. And before you start trotting out U.S. News and World report rankings, which are mostly just eye candy for freshmen and people who don't actually see what universities actually do in a research capacity, here are some facts.
We are an AAU institution. Miami is not. We are a Research 1 institution. Miami is not. We are a land, sea, and space grant institution. Miami is none of those. We also bring in twice as much in endowments and grants.
I'm sure you can make arguments as to which school provides a better undergraduate education, but saying Miami is a "MUCH" better school is a bit of a leap. As far as the research end of things, there is no comparison. Miami isn't a bad school by any stretch, but we have better research affiliations and more money at the end of the day.
I'll use myself and an anecdote. The doctoral program in which I am at UF is sixth in the nation as ranked by one of the top peer reviewed journals in the field. The same program at Miami is 77th, and it is a pretty common and large discipline nationwide. This is more than likely one of the larger disparities between the two schools, but still, Miami is "MUCH" better? There is no empirical way to support that claim. However, even knowing the ins and outs, I wouldn't actually claim Florida is a "MUCH" better institution than Miami despite knowing how robust the research agendas are here verses other universities. We have different missions to some degree, but they don't generate near the research we do.

I like how you dismiss top tier media rankings and then interject the peer journal part. This post alone makes me think higher of Miami's program.

Education wise, yes (but of course because Miami's a private institution). But if I had to choose between the two colleges, based on the college itself, it's UF by a mile.
Just as I'd rather attend UT over Vandy, or UGA over Tech. But that's me...

Jesus tap-dancing Christ. You sound like a Big-10 fan. Now go back to practicing fellating yourself, but I'm certain the only soluton is rib surgery.
