I'm not worried about our QB. But it seems allot of Bama fans want one guy and allot of them want the utta guy.

Too shiny to resist, so...

It's called having several capable, though unproven, QBs to choose from. Which is probably better than having an incapable QB which has been well documented.

Again, a great defense will only carry you so far. Yes Alabama's defense last year was great and by all accounts will be great again even with the players they have lost. They will still need their QB to make play, unlike what ours has been able to do.

Again, it's bizarre that none of them are worried. See above.

Because we've heard that LSU and UT are greater than they've ever been in the history of college football. That's why we are skeered

Nice try; but Harris was at the top of the SEC going into the Bama game. I'm not as worried about my team's QB.

Alabama went undefeated with Greg McElroy basically putting up the same passing numbers as Josh Dobbs, with virtually none of the running ability.

Bizarre? History tells us that the position will be fine and Bama will again be in serious competition for championships.

We won't have a flashy QB throwing up Heisman numbers and hitting the ESPN highlight reels every week. But I've watched this team a long time and know by now what type of team Saban will put on the field.

There seems to be a QB controversy in T-Town.

There's a QB controversy over on the Bama board.

In T-Town, the name over the door of the head coach's office still says Nick Saban so I really doubt there's a whole lot of controversy there.

Are the worried?

I mean they just won a title with Jake Coker who is awful and went undefeated with Greg McElroy who isn't much better.

There's no way they won't be able to find someone on the roster at least as good as those two.

I don't know if you have a capable QB on your roster.

You have the guy that lost to Ole Miss, another surfer's wife, and a freshman. None have had much, if any, success in the SEC. Hence, my position on Harris compared to Bama.

Saban does not need a great quarterback to win championships. Just a game manager. Ex: Matt Mauck, Greg McElroy, AJ McCaron, Coker. You could even argue this Barnett kid is the most talented quarterback Saban has ever had. Kind of scary.

But what was Harris asked to do besides hand off to Buga prior to the Bama game?

I'm just being factious, it's not Harris' fault the Les is as stubborn as a mule. It's not Harris' fault that Les can't pull his hands away from an outdated, predictable offensive scheme.

I don't blame Harris for LSU's slide at the end of the season, I blame the head coach. And apparently some pretty important LSU folks blamed Miles too, or we wouldn't have seen him taking his farewell tour on the shoulders of his players at the end of an uneventful aTm win in Death Valley.

Hey I didn't think Blake Sims or Jake Coker were capable QB's either and damned if they BOTH didn't haul in some hardware and run through the toughest conference in the country pretty much unscathed.

That's what makes college football so exciting, you never know exactly what will happen. But I think most everyone can agree after all these years that Saban will have a team physically, mentally, and fundamentally ready to play ball.

Bama has had QBs step up and make the plays when they needed to. No superstar QB's, nothing flashy at the position, not a lot of "luck" to speak of, but with pretty damn good coaching the QBs have done a decent job. They've everyone been productive without being a liability. And they damn sure haven't held the offense back and turned us into one dimensional team. Bama has fielded a very balanced offense that has progressed with the times and made adjustments to the scheme when necessary. That's good coaching.

Defensive backs should be better overall due to experience - DL depth shouldn't be a huge problem. LB is the biggest unknown.

I wouldn't say worried. There is an open competition with guys that all could be good. Definitely curious.

Alabama has won the SEC and/or NC 5 of the last 7 years with McElroy (7th round draft pick, out of the league); McCarron (5th round draft pick, NFL back up); Sims (not drafted, cut by CFL team, trying to play in Australia); Coker (not drafted, still trying to make a team)

In other words, the QB position is important at Alabama, but it is not necessary to have a great player at the position for Alabama to be successful. With that said, there is some confidence among Bama fans that out of 4 highly recruited guys, Kiffin and Saban can find a serviceable option a la the 5 preceding guys (including JPW with those above).

Could this be the year that Alabama is terrible at the position? Sure it's possible. But not needing the next Tebow, Cam, Manziel at the position take some of the pressure off.

But I think it's safe to say they won't have the [defensive] depth as last year.

Maybe not, but it won't be far off from that. The roster is still loaded two deep with 4 and 5 stars guys with experience. The "experts" think Alabama's defense will be as good as usual:

Athlon has Alabama with the No 1 defensive line, linebackers and defensive backs in the nation. Probably a bit optimistic, but the talent and experience are there.

Phil Steele has Alabama with the No 1 defensive line and linebackers and says that DBs will be just as experienced as and more talented than last year.

Lindy's has Alabama with No 1 defensive line and linebackers and No 2 defensive backs in the nation.

I wouldn't expect Alabama's defense to be much, if any, less talented and deep really.

where are you getting the impression we are concerned?

Bama hasn't thrown more than 10 INTs as a team in any season since 2007. I'm sure whoever they put back there will be expected to show similar management ability, and he will, and Bama will be ok.
