Yet when I get on here in the SEC rant fans seem to think he is a terrible to mediocre coach. Some Rantards have have even implied that Mullen isn't as good of a Coach as Sylvester Croom since he hasn't beat Alabama (even though Bama has won 2 national championships in Mullens 3 years as head coach)
Truth is. Mullen is the guy for our program and has done a very good job of moving it in the right direction. I really DGAF what the posters here or any outsiders think about him (good or bad).

What's MSU's single best win since he got there?
A win over 8-5 Florida in 2010? In that time he's 12-15 in the conference and let's look at his record against teams with winning records: (not counting FCS schools)
6-17 against teams with a winning record since 2009, and only 3 of those were SEC teams (Ole Miss 2009, Florida 2010, Kentucky 2009). His other 21 wins come against teams with a losing record.
If I missed something, please correct me, but that isn't something to get super excited about. However, he is winning the games that MSU used to lose, and he's making them more competitive, so that's something to like.
But on paper - he's done NOTHING.

Who have we lost to?
2009 - rebuilding year
2010 - 4 teams in the final top 12
2011 - 4 teams in the final top 10, @ a Georgia team that was in the top 10 before shitting the bed in the SEC championship, and @ the defending national champions with a 16 game win streak.
Our worst loss in that time is to the defending national champions with the longest win streak in the country on the road.
I love how the SECrant is trying to look at MSU in terms of a national title contender now...instead of Mississippi State terms...

The rant is stupid. Two straight winning seasons and already bowl eligible this year. I'd say he's doing awesome compared to the last couple of administrations.
His teams always play good defense, and find ways to move the ball. It's not like he was going to all of a sudden make Mississippi State turn into Alabama or LSU. He's done a great job and State is lucky to have him.
*I went to Ole Miss and I'm saying this....just let it sink it leghumpers*

He's done more with less. I think he's a good coach. I just don't think he will ever be able to win a SECC at MSU.

I think he's done good work at MSU. Like I said, MSU wins the game they should now, especially out of conference against weaker teams.
But 6-17 against teams with a winning record is a mark that should worry future employers and it's a big reason why people don't necessarily think he's the greatest coach ever.
That being said, he's put together some great seasons by MSU standards.
But a coach is never measured by how well he loses - and I wish MSU fans would stop bringing up his "quality losses."
He's an OK coach. Maybe a bigger program should give him a chance to see what he can do. I don't know. MSU might be perfect for him. He gets a parade for winning 9 games and is forgiven the losses against good teams.

He generally hasn't had the horses to hang with those teams. A majority of those losses have come at the hands of Alabama, LSU, and Auburn (when they waz all godly and winning championships). Rome wasn't built in a day. It's better to build the right way than to win one year on a gimmic and have everyone figure it out *cough Auburn cough*

And FWIW I think Freeze is doing a hell of a job at Ole Miss, and was the right man for the job.

because he's a fricking hunch back goober who coaches at Moo State. That last fact alone is worth disdain regardless of the record this year. Even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while.

Today I learned:
1. Hogs eat acorns.
2. AUTiger83 is upset at Dan Mullen.

I agree Mullen has done a great job of building up a program. I think his MSU teams have improved each year. However, I think he needs to beat Sumlin's A&M team if he wants to prove that he is an outstanding coach.
Sumlin is in his first year, in a new conference, and has a freshman QB. I don't think Mullen will be viewed as elite if he loses to Sumlin this year after all his program building efforts.
I agree he doeas't have the horses to beat LSU and Bama but he has played them competitively.

The hunchback is a good coach but a chitty human being. There is a reason why Florida never considered him for a head coach.

Time will tell. A good coach at both Mississippi schools could end up tearing each other apart with recruits. It's hard for either to keep that equilibrium going for long. Freeze is off to a good start, but Houston Nutt started well too. There is still a lot of growing for the football program up north and I still wonder if the Rebel faithful will have the patience necessary to see this through.
You State fans need to say "frick the haters" and enjoy this season. When was the last time State was 6-0? 1998? Enjoy the run.

Damn Duke you may be starting to give Henry Jones a run for the money as to who my favorite OM poster is.
