Most of the OM people I've known in my life have an elitist air about them. Some are extreme, others just got caught up in the scene. That includes OM grads that are family members, ex girlfriends, high school friends, and current acquaintances. I spent a lot of my high school days going to OM on wknds, and I can attest to this as well. None of these people are really well cultured in anything. They love money(even if they didn't come from it), name brands, and social status. It's sad to be honest.
Not all OM folks act this way but they all seem to embrace these horrible aspects of the culture. As far as money is concerned, there's not an ounce of difference between MSU and OM regarding alumni and family wealth.

Uh, who thinks Ole Miss posters are rich? Because they can afford a smart phone, laptop, or tablet?

The majority of Ole Miss= posers. They do have some well-off people there (I knew several from my home town) but they reek of BS as a whole. I wouldn't be surprised if the student bodies from Vandy, A&M, LSU, UGA, Florida and maybe Tennessee all come from higher-income families.

Living in Jackson, here are the type of Ole Miss fans I know:
1. The Ole Miss grads with stay at home wives that live in Reunion.
2. The Ole Miss grads that live in Northeast Jackson that send their kids to FPDS, then to Prep, then to Ole Miss.
3. The Ole Miss fans that partied too hard in Oxford and ended up graduating from MC or Belhaven and live a typical middle class life.
Ole Miss does not have a lot of sidewalk fans. I lived in Nashville and Vandy had more sidewalk fans than Ole Miss. Every politician in this state went to Ole Miss, most attorneys and bankers in this state went to Ole Miss. But in my experience its usually big hit or big miss. Ole Miss grads are either killing it or keeping the credit card companies happy.
Mostly good people, but they are caught up in this elitist scene. Lots more luxury vehicles in Madison than jobs that should allow for it.
I'll throw this out there - MSU circa 2005 has become a wannabe in this elitist thing. I know a couple of recent grads that one of the first things they did when they got a decent 50k accounting job was buy a 40k Lexus.

We are really good in accounting. Sucks that our business school sucks so US News hates us.

Jackson isn't even a big OM hub. When I went to umc I was surprised by it honestly. You are right though, in Jackson, OM grads mainly live at the country clubs and in NE Jackson...

You are right. Its not as big as one might think. MSU owns Rankin County and is probably close to Ole Miss in Madison.
I have a former Ole Miss homecoming queen as a neighbor. Nice as she can be. Drives a Mercedes SUV. Household income is probably in the 80-90k range.

We have a much bigger presence in Memphis, and I'm ok with that. It makes sense...
Eta: MSU can have Rankin county. That's where all of the Jackson trash lives.

This is true, but you also have people that go there just to do something different. I was one of those people. I chose LSU because I wanted to do something different than the University of South Carolina. I sure as hell didn't want to go to Clemson and I didn't want to go the Furman, Wofford, College of Charleston or The Citadel route. Most kids from Charleston that go out of state shoot for University of Virginia, University of North Carolina, University of Georgia (and private schools like Wake Forest, Davidson, Emory, Belmont, Washington and Lee...). I know some people that chose Ole Miss for the same reason I picked LSU. Why not? It's something different and a new experience.

So is Ole Miss, and has been for a while now.

False, 60% are from Mississippi LINK

That actually isn't the deal. More than 62 percent of students at Ole Miss are from Mississippi.
Care to share a link, since there's no way that's true. My junior year, the headline for the DM was "out of state now have higher enrollment than in state".

I already have.
Twice.
It's on OM's website.
