Do not want. Dabo is an 8-9 win coach without Watson.

I grew up with Dabo and an close to his family today. Dabo and I grew up in the Coach Bryant era and we watched with our own eyes what happens to a coach that follows a legend. It's not so much that he doesn't want to coach at Bama but that he doesn't want to be the guy that follows Saban!

Not according to ESPN.

"Assistant head coach/wide receivers coach Dabo Swinney has been named interim coach for the final six regular-season games and potential bowl game."

LINK

His bio on Clemson's website also says he was the assistant head coach.

"COACHING EXPERIENCE

Graduate assistant coach at Alabama (1993-95) ... wide receivers/tight ends at Alabama (1996) ... tight ends at Alabama (1997) ... wide receivers at Alabama (1998-00) ... wide receivers at Clemson (2003-06) ... assistant head coach/wide receivers at Clemson (2007 - Oct. 13, 2008) ... interim head coach/offensive coordinator at Clemson (Oct. 13 - Dec. 1, 2008) ... head coach at Clemson (2009-15)."

It's his alma mater, and Alabama is home for him.

I'm not sure he would, and for the longest time I'm not sure I wanted him to. But after the last two seasons (especially if he beats Saban on 1/9) then I'd be screaming for us to break the bank and give him some outlandish number to lure him away from Clemson after Saban retires. The thing is, he's built something at Clemson. Something you don't just walk away from.

#1- He was born and raised in Alabama
#2- He played at UA
#3- He's a highly motivated coach and there is no other program in the nation that gives a great coach the opportunity to win as big as a good coach can at Alabama.

Great athletes and coaches aren't afraid of failing to live up to previous players and coaches.

Did you go to Pelham high school? My uncles spent a lot of time with Dabo growing up.

Doubtful that Dabo or any other top tier coach succeeds Saban. Saban will leave on his own terms and more than likely still on top. It will be a challenge for anyone to come in and maintain what he has in place, much less top it. The Dabos,Harbaughs, Jimbos, etc...of the coaching world won't risk their own legacy to replace him.

PJ Fleck looks intriguing.

So does the OC at PSU.

I'd rather take Bill Clark than Dabo.

Even if it were so that other coaches don't want to succeed Saban, that doesn't preclude them coming 3 years later, after the coach that so many of you are so sure will fail does just that.

if Alabama is so great, why were they struggling prior to Saban. Alabama doesn't make the coach, the coach has to make Alabama.

there is nothing special about Alabama compared to any other large state university in the country.

My impression of Dabo is he cut corners in recruiting, and he's a ceo type coach. he's really anti Saban when it comes to handling himself. would he be able to handle Bama program or will get he get caught banging his secretary?

Bad hires and probation. Even with all of that, Dubose won the SEC in 1999, Fran won the West in 2002, and all three coaches had a 10 win season.

yes but if Alabmaa is so great, why did they hire Dubose? he actually had no head coaching experience when he was hired, and never been a DC or OC, as i understand it lol

I think its more likely to have 2 down rounds of coaches before getting another top flice coach. Unless the AD just hits a home run with some under the radar up and coming coach. But history does not favor that.

Incompetent AD. The boosters ran the program and they liked Dubose. I don't think there was much of a coaching search if any. Kind of similar to how LSU just hired Orgeron.

Dabo has never been an offensive or defensive coordinator. Your link says he was wide receivers coach and assistant head coach.(you are correct) That means he was a wide receivers coach who answered to the offensive coordinator as well as Bowden. The assistant head coach title is just a title and means next to nothing. It is just something agents negotiate for coaches now.I guess they think it looks good on a resume. It is unusual for a school like Clemson to hire a guy with no coordinator experience, and it sure has paid off for them, but it was a huge gamble.
