Best thing about Sumlin, he's not a stick in the mud like most coaches. He plays music at practice, jokes around with players, and likes for them to have fun. JFF had been messing around kicking in practice and he was making them, so Sumlin let him take a shot at one. Was Heisman pub in the back of his mind, maybe. But that's just Sumlin letting his players enjoy playing.

I really doubt it was about having fun. It was to give the dude some Heisman hype.

There is a fine line between letting your players have fun and straight up showing up an inferior opponent. i think it was pretty clear what side of the line that play fell on.

On #JohnnyFootball kicking the PAT, Sumlin said, "It's a long season and we're trying to find ways to keep the energy level up and have fun"

Classless, attention whorish move IMO

This.

Can't really see any other QB trying this, Heisman candidate or not. Just seems completely stupid.

Exactly.

The 40-0 was showing up your inferior opponent (the same opponent taking cheap shots at the QB earlier in the game, those ended after Christine Michael threw a punch at them and got himself ejected in the process).

The kick? Just having fun. And the fake outrage over it, gimme a break.

It was for fun, really don't see what the big deal is.

Why not let some walk-on OL, a 2-star 3rd stringer try it? That would be fun to see.

It was a gimmick hype move that is better suited for CUSA.

The media already loves JFF (and deservedly so bc he's great), why force the issue? It almost makes him look bad.

Why don't you aTm fans fricking call this one like it is? It was fricking amateur hour and JFF was the starlet. That was bush league as frick. SHS had to be pissed.

It was almost as bad as LSU mercy kneeing OM with 5 mins left in the game! Even LSU fans thought that was brutal.

Can you imagine if we let Cam Newton kick an extra point against ULM or UT-Chattanooga in 2010?

Any vestige of confidence Bertolet had is most likely gone now. Why humiliate your kicker like that?

A comment was made that Sumlin was keeping the game fun for his players. I don't see a problem with it. So what if he had his star player kick an extra point and the team/fans had a good time with it.

Jeez dude he's not even hating.

It was a stupid move and a giant middle finger to Sam Houston State. Just call a spade a spade and let's move on. It wasn't that big of a deal, but it was classless.
