Why did Major Applewhite leave Alabama as OC after 2007 season?

Did Saban want him to leave or did he leave on his own to go back to Texas? He seemed very young to be an OC back in 2007 for Alabama and may have not been ready yet.

He seems to be doing fairly well as Houston's OC now.

Being Tom Herman's offensive coordinator, or by extension, Urban Meyer's offensive coordinator, is like being Saban's defensive guy.

You get to have some input on how it's run, but at the end of the day it's the boss man's scheme and attack.

He and Saban didn't get along. Applewhite was too young and inexperienced.

I think it was a work ethic thing. You can't be half steppin around Saban.

He wanted to run hurry-up. Saban said no chance we do that here.

And yet took John Chavis to the woodshed one bright October day, just hours after learning two of his starting OL plus Glenn Coffee had been suspended.

DJ Hall just caught another pass.

Rumors went around 'bout Saban not fully trusting a young OC with the keys to the Bama offense, especially with one wanting to run more of a spread...but Applewhite himself said he'd been lookin' to get back to Texas for a few years and for several reasons (he was an alum, loved Austin, family, etc)...answer is probably somewhere in between...

This is exactly what it was. He didn't understand that recruiting is nearly year-round and it's an expected part of the job, especially for a young guy trying to prove himself. He worked 50 weekends the first year and decided to go back to Texas, where they weren't doing much recruiting, honestly.

They stayed almost entirely in-state, only seriously offered a handful of recruits.

Maybe but Applewhite grew up a huge Bama fan. He was named after former Bama RB Major Ogilvie. I used to see Applewhite at parties around Bama campus when he was still at Texas.

You people keep using that word. Kinda like "Scared" a couple of weeks ago. I do not think it means what you think it means.

You need to understand that we can talk whatever shite we want, and there's not a single damn fanbase in the country that can say anything about it. It's not insecurity, it's earned bragging rights and shite talking. You LSU people would do well to learn that concept.

I don't think you can list a single thing we are insecure about. You can try, I guess. Bama is the best there is, best there was, and the best there ever will be.

You don't have to like it. That's just the way it is. Call it whatever you want. The rest of the country calls it a dynasty.

You're literally providing example after example and you don't even realize it.

My how the mighty have fallen. You've been relegated to attempting to talk shite about the insecurity of another fanbase.

Introspectively, how does that make you feel?
