Wow, a reasonable Gump. You are definitely one of the 15 percenters of that otherwise wretched fanbase.

Have an upvote.

Thanks for your post Flesh Eating Salsa. I think a lot of us here take solace in College Football as a reprieve and a positive outlet/distraction from our lives. I am so thankful to be a fan of a competitive team. Especially during some of the worst years of the Great Recession when my career (Medical Sales) was in the tank and prospects looked dim.

This weekend I am going to my first SEC Championship Game. The CEO of the company I work for (Auburn Graduate) gave them to me and I am so incredibly excited that not only is the football team I cheer for still competitive but my career has really taken off!

Your personal story was inspiring and heartwarming. I hope you and the family have a Merry Christmas and ROLL TIDE!

Nice! Glad you're able to go to the game. I'll be there as well.

Wow, this really brought me back! Grew up with the family listening to LSU football on the radio and not grasping the whole Crimson Tide elephant thing. Can remember the whole family being so pissed that Charlie Mac couldn't beat that "damned Bear Bryant". Don't ever remember any family members calling for a new coach, though, cause we loved Coach Mac. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, the great post and glad that things have worked out for you.

The game of football will teach about life. The roller coaster of life is much like the momentum of the game. It has it's ups and downs but if your strong willed and a little lucky sometimes that momentum can change. The game will quickly find your weaknesses and exploit just like in life.

And I know some of you do as well. If you're one of those, then you're family, no matter which team you cheer for.

Football started there right after I left. I was a huge UAB basketball fan. Loved Bartow, Mincy, and Ogg. I still have a Birmingham Summer League jersey given to me by Archie Johnson (I'd be stunned if anyone remembers him, but he was my favorite UAB player).

I don't know many details, and don't really care to at this point. It's clear there are a handful who are genuinely angry, and they are surrounded by a much larger group using this as a pretext to take shots at Alabama.

I'm just joking, personally. UAB being gone is good for my team and as far as I'm concerned, Alabama can do whatever they want with their money. Don't give a shite.

But, you know, frick alabama and all that
