LSU was unreal from 1990-2000 winning 5 titles then won another in 2009. But USC has double the national championships and from 1968-1978 they won 7 national championships.

It's strange that USC has done virtually nothing over the past 15 years. They only have 2 NCAA tournament appearances since 2002.

All-time it's USC due to the sheer volume of titles.

LSU would kick their arse now though.

LSU beat the piss out of USC the last time they played... which was a long 17 years ago in Omaha.

Well yeah. Most of the SEC would. They are horrible now. It makes no sense how a program with that much history has fallen so far.

Seems that California (USC, UCLA, Stanford) ruled the spring sports in general pre 90s

They were going to shut down Cal's program a few years ago before their alumni bitched like crazy.

The West Coast schools just seem to have abandoned their programs due to Title IX.

I know I'm older but there a lot of teams left out. I remember being a little boy when ESPN first came out and they covered college baseball. Teams like Oklahoma State, Texas and Wichita State were always on ESPN. They were always in the tournament. LSU has definitely had the most recent of dynasty type college baseball runs.

SC won all those titles when the game was far less competitive.
It's even more competitive since LSU won its titles, but LSU's performance was more impressive.
TExas was very good, too.

Harder to win titles in the 90s than 70s and even harder to win them now

Much like most sports when comparing eras it's not as simple as just looking at the numbers

USCw all time ... but there are a lot of factors that come into play that might give rise to some doubt with regard to USCw, Texas and all the left coast programs now in the PAC12.

Things were hugely different back in the days .... 40s, 50, 60s and 70s before some of the scholarship rules and tournament qualifiers were changed.

SoCal had a huge advantage for the better part of three decades.

Miami and South Carolina were the first two schools in the 70s to challenge the old guard by forcing a bracket change via the NCAA and college baseball was changed for the better because of it.

Now, to answer your question, IMHO LSU is the preeminent college baseball program in the country along with maybe Arizona or AZ St, I forget which one.

Good question. Usc was so dominant for so long that it gives them an edge. However, in this age of baseball where not only is there more parity than back then, but it's tougher to win a title, lsu hands down. Usc overall...lsu now.

It's kind of like UCLA dominance in basketball. It was a different era. It was much easier when only a few schools emphasized it. It's better to break things down into eras than over the life of the sport. But if you must, I give the nod to the team that has won the most frequently, not the team who has won the most recently.

USCs biggest issue is that they didn't go from elite to good, they went from being elite to essentially irrelevant

Theyve been irrelevant so long that when people think of college baseball blue blood USC barely even registers

Texas is definitely in that category

Their struggles are relatively recent compared to their success as a program
