I guess I would go with Bert. My how that's changed in 7 years.

Bert is in Year 4 and is yet to even take his team to a Top 25 finish. He's also one more loss from being knocked out of the rankings this year. I'd say until a coach can finish in the Top 25, he's not eligible to even be considered.

Mullen has more or less sustained success at one of the tougher jobs in the SEC.

Freeze has had sustained success at a school that has not had a ton of success.

Sumelin, for all the shite he takes, seems to have gotten aTm on the right track.

Bert has achieved less success than all of the above but also seems to be positively tracking.

In the East it is Butch, the Bama game notwithstanding, he is recruiting at a level that will make his program a force to be reckoned with.

Win% Against Top 25 Opponents:
75.0%- Saban (45-15)
52.2%- Sumlin (12-11)
47.6%- Malzahn (10-11)
44.0%- Freeze (11-14)
27.3%- Bielema (6-16)
25.0%- Jones (5-15)
16.7%- McElwain (1-5)
14.7%- Mullen (5-29)

Win% Against Bowl Eligible Opponents:
78.8%- Saban (67-18)
55.9%- Malzahn (19-15)
55.6%- Sumlin (20-16)
51.3%- Freeze (20-19)
42.9%- McElwain (3-4)
41.7%- Mullen (25-35)
35.7%- Jones (10-18)
34.4%- Bielema (11-21)

Percentage of Weeks Spent Ranked in the AP Poll:
92.9%- Saban (144 of 155 weeks)
79.2%- McElwain (19/24)
67.6%- Sumlin (50/74)
60.8%- Freeze (45/74)
55.2%- Malzahn (32/58)
32.8%- Mullen (40/122)
18.9%- Jones (11/58)
13.8%- Bielema (8/58)

SEC Championships
4- Saban
1- Malzahn

Division Championships
4- Saban
1- Malzahn
1- McElwain

I guess I'd say it shakes out like this:

TOP TIER: Saban
2nd TIER: Sumlin, Malzahn, Freeze, McElwain
3rd TIER: Jones, Mullen, Bielema
4th TIER: Stoops, Mason

Too early for Smart, Odom, Muschamp to be considered. LSU doesn't have a coach.

Sumlin gave us our best season since 1956.

The answer is Sumlin.

Chris Peterson shits on all 3 of those. If I had one coach to choose, it would be Peterson.

I would say Dan Mullen, followed closely by Bert, Freeze, and McElwain.

Butch is a great recruiter and motivator, but terrible with X's and O's. I'd say he's middle of the pack with Sumlin and Malzahn.

Smart and Odom are unknown at this point, Orgeron I'm not sure, and Stoops, Muschamp, and Mason bring up the rear.

What are you saying?

A coach at Arkansas should be graded on a curb? Are you saying Arkansas is closer to Mississippi State in status than it is to Texas A&M, Tennessee, Auburn, etc. so that should be taken into consideration?

Would like to see coaching records excluding their first 1-3 years. Some coaches walked into much better situations than others. Makes comparing apples to oranges in terms of these teams being "coached" (brought in and coached for a few years). Just my opinion. I know Arkansas was a shitstorm that Bret walked into.
