It would make more sense to look at cities with jobs that SEC grads and fans actually can live in.

I would think many Miss St and Ole Miss grads end up in Jackson MS, or the cities around Stennis Space Center in southern MS.

Little Rock, Huntsville, Birmingham, AUgusta, Macon, COlumbia SC, Charleston, etc should be ranked for SEC grads and fans.

Austin

A giant capital city isn't a college town. Otherwise New York and Los Angeles are the best college towns

I agree with that but i'm not one generating the lists.

I actually used to think Austin was a pretty small town, about the size of Charlottesville, b/c they are always called a college town

Austin has exploded in the last 10 years. No way is it even considered a town. It's a big city.

An overcrowded, dirty city full of hipsters and Californian transplants

it does look pretty ugly in pictures I've seen.

I don't get the hype. I get the hype for Charlottesville, although it is overpriced and overrated.

Austin-Round Rock has almost 2 million population now. Almost San Antonio in size.

Starkville never gets credit on here regardless of the fact that it's improving. But it's also quietly becoming part of an economic hub in MS. With growing aerospace and automotive industries nearby, hundreds of jobs have been added recently in the Golden Triangle.

Retirement- Fayetteville

Why would you say Fville for retirement?

NWA's median age, as of the 2010 census, is 33.0 while for the country it's 37.2 and for the rest of Arkansas it's 37.4.

This stat would currently skew to put NWA even younger today, as we've gained 7-8,000 more college students from Texas in the past 5 years.

As much as I want to move away to Portland, SLC, San Jose/Santa Cruz, NYC, Dallas, OC, or even San Diego or LV there's a lot going on in NWA for young professionals and raising families. Finally there's some real movement in Venture Capital happening here in NWA. Arkansas was dreadfully slow to the party on VC, but there's a lot of support happening now for start ups and expansion phases.

Back to the original topic...

Quality of life is so ambiguous and impossible to define in general terms. It's all the things that are important to you and make you happy.

I said Fayetteville for retirement because I love the mountains and the outdoors. For me personally it would be a badass place to retire, but I guess it's not for everybody.

The retirees tend to migrate toward Bella Vista/ Bentonville not Fayetteville.
