I do find NWA a very pretty part of the country. I really had a good time when I was there for work (posters on here are not a fair representation of the people i got to meet). That being said, it isn't diverse enough or close enough to a corporate hub for other industries which causes a problem in regards to employment opportunities. My current job would not allow me to be able to live in Fayetteville although I can imagine it would be nice to live there.

um, no, it doesn't education is also top notch
This. Nashville is by far and away the best option, and it's extremely cheap. I would take Athens second. I have never been to college station, Tuscaloosa, or Oxford, but they sound top notch for small cities.
Auburn is a small town with a Walmart and some fields, nothing wrong with that of its what you want. I live outside of Columbia in Lexington. The university has done a lot to fix up this dump of a city. The CAE area has cheap housing and some decent growth and schools in Lexington County.
Nashville by far and away for a metro area, and Athens for a smaller city.

I need something to back this up. Numbers i just looked at have it growing slower than national average. Walmart would do me absolutely no good if I moved there and was looking for a job.
It isn't just Walmart HQ. We are a metro of 500,000 with 3 Fortune 500 companies and all of their associated vendors.
These 18 metros will see the most economic growth in 2016.

Also, from the Wall Street Journal:
Benton County, Arkansas led the nation in wage growth last year.

The question is easy enough to answer.
Quantitative and qualitative data on the subject are available.

With zero bias I'd have to say either Fayetteville or Oxford. I live 3 hours from Fayetteville so I'm not being a homer, nor do I get to go up there too often. It's the best mix of big/small town life, job economy, and scenery that exists in the south, let alone SEC only cities. Oxford is close because it offers a lot of the same, plus the quality of ladies.
Never been to Athens (heard it ranks up there in the top) or College Station (heard its gay up there with a lot of tops).

Cost of living may not be too bad, but the housing market is...people are dropping $300,000+ for 2 bedroom/1bath fixer-upers. That can get you a whole lot of house somewhere else.
Yeah, something in a place that offers nothing but chain restaurants, high school sports, and local hole in the wall cover bands. I paid under $200k and got 3 bedroom/2 and a half baths.

I think that Lexington would definitely be up there. Very stable economy. Lots of tech and education jobs. Fairly low cost of living. Decent public schools. Well educated population. Not a ton of crime. And bourbon. Lots of bourbon.

Lexington doesn't get enough credit when it comes to these lists, it's much nicer than people realize. I think it gets stereotyped because it's in Kentucky, much like Fayetteville in Arkansas.

I always forget about Lexington, That part of Kentucky is very nice. I'm sure Fayetteville is great too.

Probably. Arkansas and Kentucky aren't even close to being the worst states in the SEC though. Mississippi and Alabama have those bases covered.

I'd say Fayettville, but I don't like the cold. Arky is beautiful.
Outside of CS, i would say Oxford.
