I'm gonna throw something out there that may piss some guys off. Hell, it may piss everyone off...it even pisses me off.

Texas high school football coaches are as a whole probably better than you'll find anywhere. The D1 kids coming out of Texas high schools are above average fundamentally, especially at QB, WR, and DB.

The D1 kids from high schools in the S.E. while maybe not as fundamentally sound are nasty.

You can coach up fundamentals, but nasty, that's gotta come naturally....it's an attitude that a lot of Texas kids lack and need desperately to compete in the SEC.

Your are spot-on, and I completely agree. Though not all texas kids are soft. Jamal adams for example, just right off the top of my head. Really, all of the texas kids we have got at LSU have all been tough. I believe it has to do with the qualities youre program looks for in a recruit as well. You cant be soft and play football at LSU, it just ain't gonna happen. We have always and will always play a physical brand of ball.

This just in. Travis county coroner has declared them dead. Preliminary Cause of death: Self Induced Ego Overload.

Police are also investigating various sledgehammer injuries to the locker room. They have a suspect. He apparently approached investigators and kissed them on the lips.

Which may be one of the problems A&M has. Team speed and basic fundamentals? They have that down to a science. But in Texas football its a bit rare in HS to line up against a team that is just going to try and beat you to death with a solid down hill running attack and aggressive defense.

There is no great shortage of spread teams in Arkansas HS football, but there are also quite a few line up and kick your arse HS programs too. So most of our players have some experience in handling that type of game.

Arkansas has lost the last couple of years to A&M because our speed and conditioning suck. But we've played well against LSU over the last decade because our kids have come up playing against the sort of tough minded football LSU has excelled at. In a brawl with LSU we have a puncher's chance.

A&M, on the other hand, is loaded with players who aren't used to playing that style of opponent and they get rattled against LSU, a team that can match their speed and is not afraid to lower the boom on you. Add in that Sumlin has shown a real tendency to let his team unravel down the stretch and it is hard to see A&M knocking off LSU unless the Bayou Bengals are bit hard by the injury bug this year.

That is probably a valid assessment. I also agree with the observation that Texas High School talent is softer than in other places, due to the spread and 7 on 7 type of play. And as said, you can't coach "nasty."

Our biggest challenge will be be getting coaches that can recruit speed and "nasty." And we
May have to go out of state sometimes to do so.

The right coach at A&M contends for a national title in two or three years after taking over the program. Good talent in its recruiting footprint, rabid fans who love the team, and enough money to hire the best and brightest. It is the sort of mix that can land a run of dominance.

The biggest disadvantage is that LSU and Bama are squatting on the same advantages and you play them both each year. The mountain is a bit taller to climb here.

A&M has been in the position Arkansas was in after our dominant run in the 60's a couple of times. In the 70's and into the 80's we were often just a hair from turning the corner and becoming a perennial national powerhouse again but we never could quite get there. A&M has been close to the promised land a couple of times in the last thirty or so years but not pulled it off.

I think it will happen. The question is when and with what coach?

This is a start. They also need to hire a solid DC to help with that porous defense

We have female cheerleaders.

What we don't have is a male and female cheerleading squad (like LSU).

Because female cheerleaders are so much better at football fundamentals than male football players? This has got to be stupidest, most asinine thing ever said in analysis of someone's football program.

Just for the record, your school has more male cheerleaders than we do.

I'm totally fine with how they've performed, especially against LSU.

Never.

With the offensive and defensive schemes that they currently have, the Aggies will be able to put up points, but if they don't have momentum going into an offensive drive, they won't score 65% of the time, especially when going up against an average/good defense.

Also, even when they have mo on offense, their defense has been so consistently awful over the past few years to the point that it sometimes doesn't matter how hot their offense is. They will still give up tons of points and lost the game.

Soft schemes on both sides of the ball. If you push the Aggies around a little bit early, Sumlin goes into shutdown mode (along with the rest of the team) and bails out to grab some whiskey.

Missouri finished #5 in 2013. and you're correct, it's not doing shite.

At the very least, A&M gets some respect, maybe not on tRant, but media wise.

Look at the number of 5* QBs coming out of Texas the last 10 years and where they went, and it doesn't look good for A&M

I completely agree. Let's look at that number.

2018 - None
2017 - None
2016 - None
2015 - Kyler Murray (A&M - failed, transferred to OU)
2014 - None
2013 - None
2012 - None
2011 - None
2010 - None
2009 - Garrett Gilbert (t.u. - failed, transferred to SMU), Russell Shepard (LSU)
2008 - None

So out of the THREE five-star quarterbacks that have come out of Texas over the last 10 years, A&M signed one, t.u. signed one, and LSU signed one. Every single one of them was a colossal failure in college.
