Also, Austin is much much much nicer than anywhere in Alabama.

Yeah I'm sure Saban has a real busy social life and goes to lots of indie-folk concerts

And somewhere Rick Barnes has once again withdrawn his name from consideration.

If you were Saban, you'd still be working at Subway

People who think that Texas would double the highest salary for a coach in the game don't understand how their AD works. They are more about the bottom line than anyone. Sure they want to win because winning drives revenue, but they don't want a 10 million a year hole in their budget to do it when they can hire someone else who may not be as good but will win at a high level for 4 or 5 million.

It wasn't exactly unwarranted. But it did get out of hand. It's hard to be that successful and stay hungry. As in giving what you owe your team...ya know?

It's why Theo said he left the Red Sox. He didnt feel like he was doin his best job because of his lack of focus and "want" to win. It was either that or the fat check the Cubs wrote him.

if he was 51 that would be one thing. But at 61 how many elite level years does he have left before he starts slowing down? Taking another crack at the NFL would be one thing. Another college team? No way. I don't think Saban would have left LSU for another college team either.

It scares me what Nick Saban would do with a cornered market on Texas recruiting every year. He would make the Bama teams of '09-'12 look like amateur hour.

That being said, wont happen. He'll go to the NFL again before taking another college job. Plus Texas fans are way more fickle and half-assed than Bama fans.

Was this speculation bullshite a regular occurrence with Saban prior to 2010?

It was constant. Probably the most frequent flame thread topic on this board. Saban is about to begin year 7 at Bama and I think the haters have finally realized he will probably retire here once he feels like he has cemented his legacy as a top 3 college coach of all time.

I personally think he ends up staying too long, Paterno or Bowden style. He is too much of a workaholic to quit. Or maybe he retires at 65 and unretires to try to turn around his home state WVU Mountaineers or something. I could see him getting bored and nostalgic and doing something like that at a relatively small school just to prove the haters wrong who say he is only successful because he coached at LSU and Alabama.

Youv'e got to be kidding if you think Bama can match Texas, I am having trouble thinking of another fanbase that is as wealthy. Hell they UT fans could put him in a few oil deals each year that would top serveral million. Not to mention TV deals in Texas due to its size.

Also he could dominate the BIG 12 every year. Since football is going to a playoff, he would be assured of 1 of the 4 spots. A spot is not a sure bet in the SEC.

Idk, he's a different breed. He looks like he's ready to kill someone when he's not coaching football. Did you watch the segment the other day where he explained a few plays from the NCG last year? He looked so awkward. Then finally got to talk football and they'd cut in....with NO success. He'd raise his voice like a teacher arguing with a student, it was funny.

The guy just has it. All he wants to do is tell guys what to do on a football field. I think he'll die on the sideline.

Oh…we can match Texas when it comes to rational figures. If Texas wants to offer Saban $10 million, we can easily counter it. That number by itself is absurd but just think of the negative publicity the state and university would receive if they offered him a higher figure. Besides…money isn't THAT important to Saban. Many people forget he took a pay cut when he agreed to leave Miami to coach at Alabama.

He's been dominating the SEC since 2008.

Nick Saban would be a boost to TU. But,I seriously doubt Nick Saban would leave Alabama and the SEC to play TCU and Kansas State every week. This is a TU fan's fantasy.

Again, it's not a matter of if the sips can outbid Bama, because that can. The question is how far are the sips willing to go to outbid them. I don't see them offering a football coach $20 mil a year.
