The area around Legion Field is a ghetto. The area around the BJCC is downtown...
Birmingham is night and day from 10 years ago, let alone 20 and 30.
The Southside of Birmingham is one of the top places to live, work, and play in the southeast for young professionals. Especially singles. 20 somethings are back into Birmingham at an unprecedented rate over the last 5 years.
Let me ask you something, how old are you and where around Alabama do you live?

I'd imagine I'm old enough to know your father.
I live within an hour's drive of Birmingham. I commuted there before I-65 was finished, I drove US-31 from Warrior or so, past Carroway Methodist Hospital to the 26'th street exit - straight uphill to get on what is now the expressway. Rogers Army/Navy Surplus was there for a while, and a farmer's market was there for a bit as well.
Why are you asking where I live? I still travel Bham regularly. Uptown is nice, Southside is nice if you are a hipster. What would you like to know?

There is no better place to live in AL then the south and east Bham suburbs. Huntsville will never have as many good neighborhoods, schools, restaurants, and shopping destinations as Bham metro.
A few weeks ago I a bought a pair Ferragamo drivers @ Saks 5th. Met up with some high school friends @ Pappaduex for drinks and lunch, then I watched the heavy weight champ TKO some flabby scrub.
Non of this would have been possible in Huntsville.
The Quality of life in Bham is leaps better than Huntsville.
People from Huntsville go to Nashville on the weekends.

Gonna correct myself here. I saw Pink Floyd at Legion Field, not the BJCC. The area around there sure seemed ghetto to me.
Oh no a big city has a section of ghetto, god forbid.

And to call it out is some sort of sin? Are you fancying Birmingham, Alabama as some sort of hipster destination? Good lord, I admire your civic pride, but come on. Birmingham is not a destination, it's a sad side-note if you have a Delta layover.

Because certain age groups and people from certain settings and areas seem to have a view of Birmingham set in stone that's pretty damn far from the reality of it.
Southside is nice for hipsters. And everybody else as well. Especially the young and the rich.

Well I am old by millennial terms (40's) and I'd rather have a root canal than stay anywhere near downtown Birmingham, Alabama.
I'm going to cede this argument to you, as I have no vested interest, but I used to spend New Years Eve on South Side every year, up into the 2010's. It's now a shithole. My opinion, if you differ that's fine.

I bet it would be closed on Monday night, along with everything else in town
