Actually Birmingham has some nationally recognized fine restaurants. Maybe you should visit before making your snide comments.

Grand Bohemian in Mountain Brook Village is very nice and very $$$$. It has a great restaurant/bar, and also multiple good restaurants within walking distance

I do forget how many places are in that area now. Dram, Daniel George, Ollie Irene, Davenports, etc. And I've heard good things about the restaurant there. The bar there was pretty lame the night I went, but it was a Monday night.

I used to live in the apartments that got torn down for that place. Back then there was just Davenports and Browdy's to walk to.

Anything around Legion Field and west of that - Midfield, Fairfield, and/or Bessemer area.

Just Kidding. Really.

Downtown is nicer now - somewhere on the Southside is better for walking. If you don't care or want something outside the city, then Hwy. 280, south of the city.

My son and his family lived in the Mountain Brook are not far off 280. Very nice area with good eating places.

Disagree completely. This town is on the upswing. It is beautiful and the restaurant/bar scene is amazingly better. Avondale and downtown being gentrified. Also craft beer city. Not to mention OTM public schools awesome and one can avoid private school. Love it here.

What's fueling the growth? The tech industry? I've always thought Madison is a nice area of the city.
