Recruiting is only one thing that makes Nick Saban great. First when he came he demanded that he had control. He had the right to fire or hire anyone in that football department. All the people with control in that department were transferred of fired. Clean slate.

Wonder what Les really feels when he looks across the field and sees that short sawed off fricker, knowing that whatever he does Saban will find a way to win.

He's driven and detail oriented to the point of autism it seems (no, I don't think he's actually autistic). He is wired in a way where he cannot stand failure, and as a head college football coach at a major school, he can control every aspect of the program to ensure that success.
He didn't have the same level of control in the NFL, and it undermined his ability to succeed. He wasn't terrible in the NFL, but he wasn't special either.

He didn't tie Southern Cal for the BCS national championship in 03. LSU won the BCS national championship over Oklahoma.
