I don't see aggy winning more than 8-9, and can see them as bad as 7-5. I can't imagine going into year 5 in the sec this is what was expected of the program given the ups during the years of Manziel.

My question is directed to TAMU fans and others. I personally expected them to be further along, but expectations seem to have been tempered on this board. Bama, LSU, Ole Miss and potentially Arkansas could be better.

Sumlin basically waiting to get to room temperature before being seared?

The A&M campaign since joining the SEC has been a failure.

Sumlin's seat has to be somewhat hot by now.

all trolling aside if possible, what is the expectation in College Station for 2016?

What does the fan base want/expect?

There's a thread on our board about it. Just skim through it

I think people will be a little surprised this year. I don't know how it will translate to W/L but the Ags have a ton of talent, and seems like no one is expecting much.

I'm sorry my thread perturbs you.

I genuinely am curious what folks, TAMU fans included, think. I only mention this because I feel like expectations have been tempered.

I'll give the thread you mentioned a peek and then potentially could edit my thread to only include non Aggies.

I have no faith in Kevin Sumlin. But if everything goes well, we have the talent to beat anybody except for Bama on our schedule. if it goes as I anticipate, we'll be 6-6

If the fans are anticipating 6-6 its time for Sumlin to roll out.

Thats kind of sad for year 5.

So basically you think the talent is there, but Sumlin isn't the guy for the job? Sounds kinda like a lot of LSU fans when it comes to Miles TBH

I think their floor is probably 6-6, and a ceiling of 9-3. I think the main issues are the OL as a whole and the front seven against the run. If they can improve on that they can be pretty decent. QB play obviously wasn't great but Knight should be serviceable regardless. But I don't think Sumlin has it in him to produce a championship, or even another 10 win team.

Ceiling 10-2 with a floor of 7-5 in my honest opinion.

I truly think that it isn't fair to base anything off of 2012 success. The offseason before, pundits said we wouldn't win 2 games in SEC play and would be cellar dwellers. We changed their tune and haven't lived up to it since. Why?

The SECw is damned good and the East is roaring back as well. We were NOT ready for SEC play and masked our weaknesses with a generational talent in Johnny and a freak of nature in Mike Evans.

It wasn't sustainable and their were plenty of Aggys who have had reasonable expectations every year since then. However, we HAVE gotten better in the trenches, we made a hire necessary to see a LB unit even hit the field, and will field one of the best secondaries in the division.

Our QB room has been a NIGHTMARE since Johnny left, and more than likely was a nightmare while he was here too. Again, it was masked. Sumlin now has a QB who will be 'managing' with a smile on his face, instead of bitching at the first sign of adversity like Trill, Kyle, and Kyler.

Again, QB is about expectations. We are not expecting Knight to be Bama form all year. He's proven he can't play at that level with consistency. HOWEVER, he has weapons all around him and a defense that can win him 24-20 games. We have not been able to say that since joining the conference.

I know it easy to pick on the roller coaster of the aggy seasons, but we are making the changes necessary to be a competitive SEC team and not a gimmicky one. I think a lot of people will find that out this year.

Edit: just wanted to add my prediction of 9-3. I think 10-2 is unlikely but possible, 7-5 is unlikely but possible, and 8-4 is right up there with 9-3 in terms of probability.

I think we should be looking at a 9 or 10 win season. I think we will go 7-5. I think if we do worse than 9-3, Sumlin should be fired

One of the Texags mods posted this, and I tend to agree with it.
7-5 or worse and Sumlin is gone.
8-4 is an unknown middle ground (and most common A&M fan prediction).
9-3 or better and Sumlin is safe and fans are mostly satisfied.

I appreciate the serious response and agree with most of what you said, from an outside perspective. I will say that having Manziel and Evans should and could have been a catapult moving forward, and I believe Sumlin squandered that opportunity for the most part. But I stand by my initial thoughts back in 2012 that TAMU will always be a tough opponent for most anyone.

I believe the 2016 west looks like this:

LSU/bama
Ole miss
Auburn/TAMU/Arkansas
the rest

Basically 4th place is up for grabs

But in a year or 2 I think we will see a shift

I agree with your expectations and think that's completely and utterly fair and reasonable given your talent pool to recruit from and resources

I've also been pretty blatant in my thoughts that TAMU is loyal to a fault and should have already moved on from Sumlin

I think he is borderline toxic and TAMU has too much potential to not have a tier 1 head coach

Well the truth is they could be a lot worse

You start thinking you're entitled to a tier 1 head coach and you run the risk of ending up like Tennessee

There's entitled and then there's earned it

TAMU hasn't earned it, but UT has. IMO of course. But UT is the second winningest all time program in the conference.

Tenner just made some risky hires that didn't work out

Same record as LSU since joining the SEC. Top 5 finish. 3-1 in bowl games in 4 years.

I'm not denying that there is reason for concern. We've regressed since year one. But we'll see this year. We've got the best defense we've had in a long time. If the new OC and new QB can get our offense back on track, we might mess around and have a good year. If that happens, then everything is back on track. If it doesn't happen, then Sumlin is on his way out.

I think he's a good coach. Time will tell if I'm wrong.

Ceiling 10-2. Floor 7-5.

Sumlin is the only place left for a finger to point. Talent is in place, and proven Coordinators are in place. 10 will get recruiting going again, and make me feel much more comfortable with Sumlin leading the way. 7 isn't good enough.

I suppose 8/9 wins will depend on the fashion of the losses.

ETA: My prediction was 9-3
