I don't think he's quite as dumb as he seems. He's weird as frick though. I think he's a good, but not great coach. I think he's a very good recruiter in a state with no rivals.

question to the LSU fans, since they're probably more "in the know" about it on a day-to-day basis: do you think his coaching performance in the last MNC is an ominous sign of things to come? from my recliner, at one point it looked like he completely alienated both the players & other coaches....wonder if the dynamics from that game will carry over into the upcoming season.
so, i guess my answer is: good coach up to this point, but i'm curious to see how the story ends before making a final judgement.

I think Les is a solid coach... not a great one, but very solid. He's a bit erratic IMHO and has made some startling on the field blunders. Nonetheless, he is an exceptional recruiter and motivator, and this has covers some tactical sins.
The bottom line to me is that I like the guy, he's like the crazy uncle at the family reunion who always brings the fun.

auburn just made a great play. even the correct call doesn't always work. its ok merlins is building a power at state and les will bow to him this year as we crush LSU's undefeated season

He was an Economics major at one of the best public Universities in the country. Spot on. Michigan is better than any school in the SEC besides Vanderbilt by.... Miles?

I don't know what to think about Les Miles. Someone said enigma--I agree with that. He is the most unpredictable coach out there. Establishes reputation as the "mad hatter" prior to 2011, but goes virtually completely conventional in 2011.
I don't get him. I think 2012 will tell us more about him than any of the prior years, though.
Laying an egg in the BCSNCG didn't help my perception. But I can't help but like the guy--and he's always been gracious in victory and defeat. Something to be said for that.

Good manager of others who define the success of the team. Would I want him running my offensive play calls? frick no. But would I trust him to put together a staff to field a successful program? Yes

His record speaks for itself. He has been at LSU 7 years and averages well over 10 wins per year. He has never lost to Spurrier and holds his own with Saban and Urban. He beat Stoops twice while at OSU in the early 2000s when OU was dominant. He has beaten Tubberville, Fulmer, Richt, Petrino more than once.
Outside of bama and possibly SC fans, I bet fans of every other school in the SEC would take him over their current coach.

I don't get him most of the time either, but like previous posters have said, his record pretty much speaks for itself.
He seems to be as hard-headed as they come sometimes offensively, but he also seems to realize that he needs great defensive minds on the other side of the ball, and he's done that very well overall.
He's a very good recruiter with a very rich talent base to chose from, I don't see that changing anytime soon. He's also a players coach that can make those guys run through walls for him, another very good asset.
So yeah, I'm still confused as hell about his coaching abilities

Living in BR as an Ole Miss fan is tough, obviously, but it's easier knowing Miles is coaching LSU. He is a super nice family guy but his stock plummeted over a 24 period around the NC game. Probably unfair to judge him so harshly against a superior team but LSU was stacked too. Just inconceivable to me (pulling for the Tigers with my friends) how his decisions during the game and overall game management was so poor with so much time to prepare for that game. He could have implemented the old Single Wing or Box formation offensively during that time but instead he continues to run it up the gut late in the 4th quarter.

As far as the NC game,Les was just playing possum.

I think he is excellent at motivating, preparing, and relating to young men which in turn makes him a good recruiter at a place that isn't hard to recruit at.
At the same time I think he isn't the smartest coach in the land and may just be the luckiest.

Without a doubt...it took an act of God to even get his '07 team into the Title game. Nix that out and he isn't even coaching LSU last year.

Miles confuses the hell out of me. But he wins over 80 percent of his games in the best division in football, is hanging skins all over the joint and is recruiting and coaching up freak athletes. How the hell can anyone say they don't want that at their program?

Is his horrible clock management just part of the act? If so, he is pretty damn convincing

Hey dumbass, if you cloned that LSU team and gave Bobby one and Miles one, Bobby would stomp a mudhole in his arse...now convince me Im wrong
Yes if you cloned it and gave petrino the cloned team that would work. However Petrino could never assemble a team like that no matter where he was at because hes a complete tool which turns people away on the recruiting trail. You are taking away Miles' biggest strength-his personality and recruiting while minimizing Petrinos weakness. Recruiting is more important that xs and os. Its been proven time and time again. Miles is the better coach. Hands down.
