Don't stay in any cheap hotels on the West Side of the Mississippi.

Isn't Memphis one of the highest rated Bed Bug infested cities?

There's some neighborhoods east of downtown lined with nice old homes, sorta like the Garden District, if you like that stuff. Good way to kill an hour or so, and the area's pretty posh, so it's safe. I think east along Union Street might get you there, but it's been a long time since I've been to Memphis, so you should do some research. If you're interested.

If you're into gambling, go long enough to spend a little time in Tunica.

The Liberty Bowl is located on the periphery of the hood. Start packin' heat.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll probably just go to the safe bet in Rendezvous and not look any strangers in the eye. Is Beale street just like a miniature bourbon street? From the handful of photos I've seen that's the impression I get. Is it cool to walk down the street with an open container?

Go to Rendezvous, DON'T wear team colors. dress normal and ask for the local cut. They smoke the ribs for the locals 6 hours, for the tourists 2 hours. Also get the Lamb ribs. They are amazing.

It's pretty much exactly a miniature Bourbon St. Open containers are fine (and encouraged).

Yes, it's ok to have an open container on Beale and at the Liberty Bowl.

I'm telling you, go to Rendevous it's fun if you're from out of town. But BBQ shop is in Midtown, not far from the stadium or downtown.

It's my favorite in the city.

Yep. I don't know if its the goofy shape of the stadium or what, but the wind ain't nothing nice that time of year.....or maybe its just the result of the baked beans from the bbq joints

Funny you say that. Guess who SMU's coach is? Yup, the same coach who was on the sideline for that 41-10 beatdown

I'm pretty sure Travel Channel ranked it the number 3 zoo in the country, and the best Cat exhibit in the world.

Get a mini-suite in the Hampton Inn about a block off of Beale Street. Plenty of room in the mini-suite, and cheaper/better than any regular room in the Peabody (and 2-3 blocks closer to Beale St). The Hampton Inn is still new and clean, with decent free breakfast in the lobby.

Definitely hit up the Zoo, and Mongo's house.

I've been in Memphis so long, all the BBQ is mehhhh. If I had to pick a place it would be the Commisary. For a good breakfast check out Bryants. It's on Summer just off Sam Cooper Blvd.

eta... Bring cash to Bryants. They don't do plastic. That's just how they roll. Also Brother Junipers is good, but you can wind up in the hood real quick if you aren't careful.
