“So what good does it do, what does it mean? It means nothing I don’t even know why we have it. The only time it means anything … the only reason why we have it is for folks like you to talk about it and write about it. That’s all it is, and ask questions about it.Other than that, what does it mean? Tell me what it means? Does that mean somebody’s getting to the playoff, or not getting into the playoff? It doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t mean anything.

“So until the end of the season I don’t have anything to say about that, I really don’t, because it doesn’t mean anything other than your team has done well enough to have a chance to create an opportunity for itself if they can finish the season the right way. That’s what it means.”

.....ain't nobody like'em!

He's flat out wrong about this. Rankings impact everyone else's rank as well as your own future.

Did it matter LSU was #2? No, not to them in the end, but it mattered to Alabama because now they have a dominating win over "then #2 LSU". It's all bullshite meant to prop up narratives.

Had he not lost to Ole Miss, he would have a point, but without LSU's rank at the time of domination, you'd be on the outside looking in and hoping Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Baylor lose.

Also, ask 2004 Auburn if preranking matters.

When you have a coach that firmly believes in the process and only the process nothing else matters. I have to say I agree completely with him. Especially when you control your own destiny now.

Because an undefeated Houston might get completely fricked? Is that fair? Ranking probably means something to Houston. Sitting at at #24 undefeated.

Ranking mean something. I kinda agree and disagree with him.

Iowa, Oklahoma St may disagree too right now. Hopefully it works itself out by the end of the year.

Who is Alabama's "signature win"? Every ranked team they beat have not turned out to be that good.

Wisconsin - ranked #20 when they played, will probably finish outside the top25

Ole Miss - ranked #15 when they played, no longer in top25

Georgia - ranked #8 when they played, LOL

TAMU - ranked #9 when they played, LOL

LSU - ranked #2, don't care what you guys say, LSU never deserved a #2 ranking, they are not a #2 team other than at the RB position.

It's easy to argue that Bama is like all the other teams in the top10-15. Haven't played a strong schedule and has even suffered a loss.

Anyone thinking this is a better process is delusional. In fact, it's more wide open for criticism than any poll is.

And I'll throw out that preseason rankings hurt the sport more than it benefits it. Sure, preseason rankings are fun to talk about, but when a team comes into the season ranked in the top10 but turns out to be shite, it throws in false accomplishments for the team(s) that beat them. I guess it can work itself out, but preseason rankings do not help the situation.

Edit. Auburn for example. We came into the season ranked #6 I think. We played like shite and the other teams that beat us benefited from our ranking that was not accurate at the time.

I never bought in to Auburn being top ten this year but you are a much better team than the way they are playing right now. Hopefully ATM game turns things around.

Except that Alabama was ALREADY in the top 4 before they beat LSU.

As usual, folks miss the point. The thread's about SABAN, not the rankings. A lot of coaches will tell you the same thing...but not the way Saban does.

We are nowhere near playing like a top10 team even now. I think this year in college football is strange. There are no teams that are just running away with it. Everyone in the top8 is pretty even it seems.

Should have kept the basic BCS formula and taken the top 4 or 8 or whatever they finally end up on the size of the playoff.

Hundreds of human inputs and thousands of computer inputs morphed into two human polls and half a dozen computer rankings is much better than 12 people's opinions. The more inputs you have the more individual bias and outliers are negated. Usually the greater the sample size the more accurate the results.

Well, the thread should've been posted on the Bama board then.

Anyone that knows Saban should know that the message was directed to his players. He lights into the media to get the attention of his team. He's a psychological genius.

agree. I don't know why we couldn't use the BCS process and expand it to 4 teams.

It's really amazing that more people don't realize this by now. Everything he does or says in the press is for a reason....everything.
