I can't imagine why Shaka would take Marquette. IU will probably be open soon

Apparently they have a lot of money to offer.

Sort of makes me think of Chris Peterson at Boise though. Eventually a guy realizes that he has hit a ceiling where he is at and just wants a better job. Even if it isn't that much better.

Weird situation.

I really could not blame UT for not giving him a big raise/extension (team will most likely suck next year) - however I could not blame Cuonzo if he said frick you and took a job elsewhere since coaches in his position who make the Sweet16 usually get a solid raise/extension.

Imo you have to think Mack, Marhsall, Howland, Shaka, etc. is on the line if this is true.

Of those the best Tennessee could hope for is Howland after treating a guy like dogshite who just took you to the Sweet 16

Shaka is making good money at VCU, basketball is the "show" on campus, has great facilities, and is getting top100 talent to VCU.

Tennessee fired a coach in 2001 that had been to 4 out of 4 NCAA Tourneys and a Sweet 16.

I don't think anyone has treated Cuonzo like dogshit. This team has dramatically underachieved the last 2 seasons outside of the last 3 weeks.

How do you dumb bastards not understand that this team has looked completely awful for most of the season (and last season though they were kind of undermanned)? A team that should have had a good seed and their tourney status should've never been in question.

I get that most of the SEC has really low basketball expectations, but shite, there are some teams with decent talent in this league.

Dude y'all just fired a guy in the team hotel then hired a guy who still is under a show clause by the NCAA. You have no right to criticize another program right now.

True. However, I don't believe this VQ mod for a second. Nor do trust VF30 on this issue - he's been anti-zo for a long time and hasn't budged a bit despite this team and CCM getting it together. The only thing that could be called truthful right now is "there will be no raise..." until AFTER the tourney. THAT is when contracts, extensions, raises will be considered. Not before.
IOW, no one in authority has spoken nor will they until after the tourney. Then and only then will news leak out one way or another but imo Cuonzo will be extended and he'll get a raise - he's earned it.

Given how young CCM is and how we've watched him develop there's no question that he's earned his salary and earned a pay raise. The only question is how long/how much any raise/extension will be. He earned the initial criticism and he answered it. There's also been a solid progression that is clear as day to anyone who looks at his coaching.

I love how people think Tennessee should rush to overpay a guy who would probably have already been fired if Iowa didn't choke away a big lead.

He can have a raise if we're still alive a week from now. Or at least another win.

That is unbelievable. Cuonzo was actually the guy I was hoping we would get to replace Stansbury...UT just snatched him up. Not sure why everyone at UT seems to hate him.

Not really. OP is a zo hater citing a freaking mod who doesn't know squat. As the ole saying goes, "believe half of what you see and nothing of what you read." It certainly applies in this case.

I don't think Cuonzo is a bad coach at all. His real problem is loyalty to a dogshit staff.

Rob Lewis and others repeatedly say Cuonzo is the hardest worker and best recruiter on the staff.

If he had a proven Xs and Os guy and another solid recruiter, we would view him in a much different light imo.

Not really a Zo hater. Do I think Tennessee could do better? Yes.

Not sure how I would handle this situation, but I certainly hope Tennessee keeps winning.

IU is stuck with Crean. He is locked up till 2020 and is paid over $3 million/year. Would cost IU way too much to kick him to the curb.

Shaka is not leaving VCU, not until a Big Time Blue Blood Program opens up.

I find it funny Vol fans would get rid of Counzo and want Howland.

Does anyone follow college basketball? You think Counzo ball is a drag…WTF do think Howland system is? It is just as boring.

Absolutely. But we shouldn't pay Martin an absurd amount for what may very well be a complete fluke.

I don't give a shite if it's boring. Howland's resume dwarfs anything Tennessee has ever hired.
