I mean nobody IN Knoxville has heard of him. Dirty truth right now is that we're making room for next season's roster. It's roster management time and we've been told to expect a few drop outs of the recruiting class and later adds. I'm not sure but a transfer depending on his transfer date may be a spot that can be back counted (not sure though) but man with Kelly, CFA, and Ty Chandler (incoming) if you couldn't play when Hurd quit the SC game and Kamara was injured then you're probably not going to find a reps any time soon.

I wish him the best and thank him as even practice players contribute but I had no idea who he was til today and even now he's just a name to me (don't know anything more about him).

Hey, Prof. Long time, no banter. And, yeah, I totally buy that. I'm a huge football fan and I'm pretty sure I can't name all of our starters off the top of my head, let alone the 3 deep and Expendables.

One thing Butch has shown himself to be really good at, better than Saban and Freeze, is manipulating the timing and numbers to bring in large classes that fill all the needs.

I miss our banter. Gon' have to pick it up soon. Ya' smart skool bastid.

Not sure if I remember correctly but I think the EE thing was something CBJ brought to UT from prior stops and EEs allow you to back count which means MOAR in the class (I just don't remember it ever being used like it was his 2nd year here but also other times). Also the guy who does our recruiting profiles is fricking brilliant - former NFL guy and his job is to search out matches, those with even the slightest connection to UT, and find underrated guys who are fits etc. has been brilliant so far. I'm sure there are others too.

CBJ and staff have read the rulebook and exploited it to perfection much like Saban has done in other areas.

Why would Butch leave? UT is about to be in the SECCG. Surely that's worth a raise.

He won't. He'll get both a raise and at least a small extension. Some fans will gripe but if we were not to do that it would be a very bad look that would run off good coaches who look at us and say 'the man improved the program, the win/loss ratio every year, and took them to the SECCG despite losing 11-17 key players, most of them starters and they treated him like this?' It would also KILL recruiting.

Just the way things work whether fans like it or not.

If we give Botch an extension we may as well just announce we no longer aspire to compete for championships and are happy with mediocrity.

I feel like I'm going to be embarrassed not to know who you're talking about, but who is your recruiting profiler?

Stoops crosses the border from BBN and joins the Vol nation. You heard it here first.

Bob Welton. He was a talent scout in the NFL for 9 years. So you shouldn't feel bad about not knowing him. Those guys are rarely known.

Here, he's Director of Player Personnel and those guys scout players, help with recruitment strategy, often help with player support, and so on. They're expected to know compliance (teh rulz) like the back of their hands. Welton has been brilliant at finding players with connections to either UT or CBJ -- even small ones -- as well as finding guys like John Kelly (a 3* from an overlooked corner of MI who has outplayed our quittin' arse 5*.)

Nah. I could see him going to UCLA or maybe Oregon, but he definitely is in a well-suited conference for him. He's making Wazzu relevant, which isn't an easy thing to do. But his offense only coaching style won't cut it in the SEC.

Doesn't mean we wouldn't be stupid enough to hire him.

Happiest I've been lately is when AU didn't hire him and hired GusBus instead. Leach with players would be hard to beat. ,

Michael Leach has a fairly low ceiling.

I think I would fire my agent if he negotiated a clause like this in my contract. Your employer gives you your severance package and pink slip, but has the audacity to tell you your future employment options are limited? Bye bye agent.

Gruden to UT. You heard it here first.

Butch was just a smokescreen. It's was all part of Gruden's evil plan to take over the college football world. Gruden wanted to make Vowel fans so hungry for a championship that they'd riot in the streets of Soddy-Daisey. He even planned to get Donald Trump elected, but that's another phase of the plan.

Watch out CFB world. Chunky' coming to Knoxville. Book it.

It's not that I don't think we aspire to it, I just don't think we can obtain the kind of success we had mid 90's to early 00's again. With the internet, social media, and tv network deals there are a lot more options for people and players to get exposure. It will take a great hire (which UT can't seem to make) for it to happen again.

Where would Bama be today if Saban hadn't been available the year they need a coach?
