Yea, only Finebaum, who when in Birmingham only had lunch with the SEC Commissioner, Mike Slive, about every couple of months. He couldn't have a clue !!!

even if it is just the rate card figures, I'm guessing they aren't too far off from the actual contract numbers.

I'm guessing they aren't as well but I was just hoping you had actual contract info

You are right. The current contract for DTV stated that the SEC got $1.30 or something in all of the states with an SEC school, and something like $.40 for those outside the footprint.

I might have to look it back up. But when the contracts were on going. I believe if the SEC would have picked up states with another power 5 school they'd only get like $0.60/ subscriber. That's why Mizzou made since, get the full amount with Mizzou. Even with 0.60/subscriber the SEC still makes a lot off of TAMU in Texas because of Texas' population. If Missouri had another Power 5 school the SEC wouldn't get much out of Mizzou being in the conference in terms of $$$$.

Link?

Keep in mind the negotiations went much better than anyone could have ever hoped for with the network. Making discussions in 2010-2011 pointless.

VA Tech would be a great addition to the conference.
No brainer, really.

This I don't understand. UVA's football program has been pure garbage for years and their hoops program just now got back on its feet for the first time in a decade. Other than better location and academics what would they bring athletically?

It was Oklahoma, then VT, then A&M, then about 10 schools, then Mizzou.

UVA is basically top-15 nationally in everything but football and basketball, and they were a one-seed in basketball and won the ACC last year. They are always competitive for national directors cups and things of that nature. They won't join the SEC, but if they did, they'd get better at football quickly with their resources. They wouldn't be a power, but they'd be solid more often than not.

To answer your question: a lot.

UVA has a much better overall athletics program than VT. VT was garbage before Beamer and will probably be garbage again after. UVA is better positioned.

Basketball history is not close - UVA > VT.

Laugh all you want it's a great rule. I don't think any opposing fan should have the right to go into another teams stadium.

That's why people outside the SEC laughed when Mizzou did good. According to SECers Mizzou should go 0-8 and 1-7 every year. Mizzou couldn't even go 0-8 in one of their worst years when pretty much the whole offense was hurt. I bet they'd go winless in the Big 12 that year.

Virginia has much better history in basketball than VT. People care about that.

Hell, Virginia had to lobby to get VT in to the ACC.

Virginia is hands down the better choice.
