Besides, the conference needs us to anchor bowling and women's tennis.

It also needs us to help protect the conference from pesky FOI requests and the like. We're basically the SEC's money launderers.

Okay, back onto the original topic a bit. Do people think that's a form of cheating, or just a benefit of being a private school?

We get certainly no advantage in any other major sport, so I can live with it.

You can keep telling yourself that Clemson is academically on par with Harvard but that doesn't make it so.

Taters gonna tater. Maybe this is a real Clemson fan and not an alter, but I am still leaning to an alter trolling Vandy fans, which is an odd troll indeed.

If this is your pool of good engineering schools you are not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Absolutely not cheating at all. No way. Just a huge recruiting advantage.

i'm an engineer, what about you. Employers hire tons of engineers from these schools. Vandy doesn't have a lot of engineers graduate every year, it is a small school.

how is it hating on vandy to say Clemson, and other public colleges, are as good as Vandy? that makes no sense.

you never proved they are better. What makes US News the judge and jury on colleges? Nobody hired them or elected them to that position

private schools are mostly silver spoon rich kids. it is not surprising rich kid schools are ranked higher than publics in general. Follow the money

Maybe I should re-phrase. It's not cheating now, but do people think the rules should be re-written to lessen Vandy's ability to do so? But in that case, I think you'd be going against the "treat them like regular students as much as possible" mantra the NCAA is trying to push so hard.

Fair enough. But "following the money" doesn't explain why the engineering programs at Berkeley, Illinois, Michigan and Purdue are ranked in their top 10.

I was an engineer in college.

Vandy would have been on my list had they offered my specialty, Clemson was not. An old GF did go to Vandy for ENG school and she did pretty well. As MIT, Purdue, and Georgia Tech were on my group of accepted schools and Clemson never even hit the board I am going to say Clemson is not an elite ENG school. Look I have folks who went to Clemson who were not all bad but they were not the top of anything.

You need to stop trolling dude because this is getting old.

Oh, good lord. Let it go. We get it -- you're insecure. None of us had a word to say about the value of a Clemson degree until you decided it was imperative that you let us know that you're upset that few people consider Clemson on Vanderbilt's level. Me, I've always been quite clear that I think most major universities are just fine and being elitist about my own would be obnoxious. Most of the posters here who know me know that.

If you're lucky, maybe you'll find a USC poster or two to validate your intense need to defend your university. Until then, though, get a grip, because you really are coming across as being extremely insecure about the quality of your education. Trust me, none of us gives, or gave, a damn about you or whether you attended a school good enough to require us to take you seriously.

ok you are welcome to your opinion. I have worked at several engineering firms and never met one engineer from Vanderbilt. Met Clemson, NC State, Auburn, VA Tech, Maryland, Alabama, SC grads.

The majority of engineers don't go to private colleges. Most privates don't even offer engineering and if they do they typically don't have all the engineering majors. Vandy's program does seem more like a public

Calling people insecure when they express an opinion about someting is just a way of shutting down people. I'm only talking about it still because you guys keep debating me or running down Clemson.

I enjoy it when people talk trash about Clemson. So I can then counter the arguments with better ones
