obviously we're not going to stop talking about one of your dipshits just because you want to forget.

This is exactly my point. It was made in response to the Auburn fan's comment in this thread that it is only Alabama fans that are interested in Updyke. It's quite the opposite actually. It is Auburn fans who want to keep up with this guy's miserable life because it makes Alabama fans look bad and makes them feel better about themselves. However, they talk out of both sides of their mouth when they say they just want him to go away. They don't.

If I didn't know better it seems almost as if some Auburn fans would gladly sacrifice the trees in exchange for the bad publicity Alabama fans received from Updyke. I know that couldn't possibly be the case though.

Seems like Bamers would support him. You know deep down they all had a bit of enjoyment out of the deed.....what's $10 for that?

I think what he did was stupid. I also think the punishment is extreme.

So he has to pay $750k after spending 6 months in jail!? Seriously, dude is a POS but what do they expect?? Even if he paid $500 a month like the judge asked him it would take 125 years to pay it off. Whats the point?

This is pretty typical. Judgments are entered in criminal and civil proceedings all the time where everyone knows the prevailing party won't be able to collect. The point is just to show that losing side was at fault, deter future conduct, etc. It's not really about the money. Hopefully, they didn't waste too much money getting to this result though - then I can understand the question, what is the point in throwing good money after bad?

Seems like a lot more than just 1 person wanted Updyke's autograph

Among the Crimson Tide fans enjoying themselves tonight, none is more famous than Harvey Updyke, the Alabama fan who allegedly poisoned the legendary oaks at Toomer's Corner in Auburn, then bragged about it on the Paul Finebaum Radio Network.

Izzy Gould from the Tuscaloosa Bureau of al.com newspapers ran into Updyke in the throng of fans Sunday night.

Updyke, who said he is tired of his 15 minutes of fame, was a popular destination for fans Sunday night. Many fans stopped him begging for autographs and photos while he was strolling up and down Bourbon Street this evening.

ahh gotcha...that's obviously false. I'm interested in every gift this shitbag keeps giving. Lawnmower blade threats were the best.

good thing you know better then.

he did it, he's a dipshit, stories go in papers when he does more stupid shite, it's going to be talked about, he made himself infamous, not auburn. Hell, he'd have probably gotten away with it except for his need to show off what he did.

Would rather have the trees and rely on your other dumbass fans to make you look stupid (if you subscribe to the idea that one or two, or more in bama's case, fans paint the whole fanbase).

AU fans dont take pictures with him and use his celebrity status for charity events.

Bama fans do that.

Is that on what you are blaming your lack of reading comprehension? Don't be too hard on yourself; it's obviously not your fault.

100% SPOT ON

That completely falls in line with the behavior of even the most reasonable Auburn fan. THEY are the ones who call us Updykes. THEY are the ones that comment on his every move. THEY are the ones keeping the reporters writing stories about him because they can't help but click on the link.
