If Updyke can't pay the money, he should take the initiative to make restitution by planting Live Oaks and various other trees across Alabama and the South.

Maybe Lee County can spend a few more thousand to get another $99 out of him.
Btw, did that DA win his re-election?
(this isn't to say he didn't deserve some punishment and restitution... but a lot less money could have been spent to have gotten the same results or something that would have been more meaningful in the way of restitution and punishment than what the DA spent in prosecuting this.

If Lee County really cares about the trees, Updyke should be sentenced to planting trees...a lot of trees...beautiful Live Oaks and various other species of nice trees.
