If this happened during the coaching carousel, Shaka Smart almost assuredly would have taken the job if offered.

Gainesville is on fire right now. I don't see them hiring someone better than Billy d.

Agreed. Unfortunate timing for Florida.

Congrats to Billy if true. He's been the best non-cheating coach in the sport for a long time. That will be tough to replace.

It could have been Shaka but oh well.

We'll make a few say no and then make either Pel or AG the interim coach for a year to get a better hire done the right way.

Maybe they'll land Billy Donovan like the last time they had a vacancy.

I am still holding out hope that Christine Donovan is not smiling and has her arms crossed in the presser. Until then I am in a river in Africa.

They've already put the old band back together. I can't imagine at this time that they don't promote one of those guys. Serious question, do you think Florida is willing to eat the Grant/Pelphrey deals to bring in one of a bunch of guys who just got new deals/jobs?

Terrible timing on this one. Florida got screwed.

Getting out of assistant coaching deals is not really a big concern. One of them is probably going with Donovan, maybe one stays on with whoever is hired.

The Arkansas playbook on this suggests you should hire Pelphrey (John L. Smith) and tell everyone that the continuity will keep Florida in contention and there won't be any drop off and because Grant is on staff (Paul Petrino) nothing bad will happen and recruiting won't suffer.

Would UA fans meltdown if Anthony Grant took over and had them successful? (I don't think that will happen, but it would be amusing.)

I think Donovan struggles at the pro level for a few years and then when he is ready to head back to college, Alabama hires him after struggling.

Three years.

I like Billy and hope he makes it, but I wonder if he can deal with all those millionaires with monstrous egos?
