Having watched both teams maul my Aggies, I expect the Rebels to win a very hard-fought and close contest.

Majority of the country doesn't think so, so I'll go with the unbiased view of America. #1

Idk what majority you're talking about.

You're basing this off of current polls? Ok.

Current odds have us favored. More analysts are picking us for the playoffs than yall. The computer polls give us the best odds in the country to win out.

We'll see for ourselves soon enough.

Y'all officially changed your mascot a few years ago from "Colonel Rebel" to "Rebel, the Brown Bear." (I still like Admiral Akbar as the alternate mascot. One of the best f.u. student responses to Administration nonsense that I have seen.)

Colonel Reb was removed as the mascot in 2003. Rebel, which is the name of an anthropomorphic black bear, was introduced in 2011. Just making sure you have those details down.

quote:

As I understand it, the new mascot was selected in a campus-wide "election" that bore a close resemblance to what China is doing in Hong Kong ... "Sure, you get to vote, but only amongst OUR pre-selected options and without including anything that you actually LIKE on the list."

Eh, kinda. It was a student-run election, but they all came up with REALLY SHITTY ideas and didn't have "I'd rather not have a mascot" as an option.

quote:

But you retained "Rebels" as your official nickname, correct?

Yes.

quote:

So y'all have a mascot that seems to have no connection whatsoever to your team nickname.

Just like how Collies don't grow food, yes.

quote:

So, how is the fanbase adjusting to the change? I know that it was very unpopular when it was done, but has that changed or is it changing?

Most people don't give a shite. The people who do are really vocal about it.

quote:

Setting aside the physical mascot, the nickname "Rebels" still has the (perceived?) stigma associated with its origins in the Civil War. Has there been any move to change the nickname as well?

That's what this is all about. It's about disassociating Rebels from a Confederate context and having it mean Rebels in a more broad context.

There has been some discussion about changing the Rebels nickname, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

You mean the same analysts that picked Alabama, auburn or FSU to win it just 3 weeks ago? Oh okay.

Opinions halfway through the season are clearer than opinions two or three weeks into the season.

Also, at this point we have actual objective data to go by, such the numbers for the super badass Ole Miss defense that everybody's scared as frick of.

The haircut is probably related to the fact that he is still a Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserve.

Just because you're in the Army doesn't mean you have to wear a mid fade bro.

His head looks circumsized.

A little clarity from an outsider.

- The picture posted is photo shopped - right?

- I have a lot of respect for a veteran.

- Afghanistan is a shite hole and every Afgan native there is not worth a single American solder's life/injury.

- during my time, we always looked at 82nd Airborne troops as idiots. Who would want to willingly jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

- That said, I am grateful for his service. I would have been proud to see him attending MSU. And would slip on my fatigues and stand beside him anywhere he wanted to stand.

aTm needs to lose the milkman uniforms and go with standard cheerleader suits, preferably on girls.

For reference and to not show favoritism to an SEC school, Note the USC cheerleaders

Not a milkman suit anywhere there, that I can tell.

Airborne. They have always liked the radical haircuts, way back to WW2.

fyi, I think these guys are 101st, rather than 82nd.

I still can't believe they didn't nominate "Grover". I thought he was the obvious choice.
